there's a place here in cave creek that's probably the best. or tied for the best IMO. it's called Ten.
the one it's tied with is on Davie st but i can't remember the name. but i do remember that they use tonnes of roe on all their rolls.
mmmmm roe.

From where I've eaten before...I like Shabusen (on granville, not on burrard) and Kisha Poppo (on Davie) the best!

probably this tiny place in white rock called kappa, which has been there for as long as i can remember with the same Japanese family running it, everything there is delicious and beautifully presented, my favorite are probably the mango rolls (rolls of maki sushi with thin slices of mango on the outside. yum.) they make a lot of other different but yummy stuff too.

For Japanese food, I'd say my new favorite Izakaya (sp) place is Sakuishi on Denman st. it's absolutely delicious there. Absolutely amazing.

oh and impure, i think the place you are thinking of is samurai! i eat there at least once a week, huge portion sizes, I go for their super spicy agedashi tofu.

i went to one in richmond on a date once...it was the best. it might have been the company that made the experience so enjoyable=)

Tanpopo, Shabusen, Fish on Rice, Richmond Sushi... a couple others but I cant remember the name of the restaurants.

the best sushi I have had has been at 2 places
1) Sango- its in Pitt Meadows..so good and their Gyoza is top notch too
2) Nagano- its in Coquitlam near the Coq Center. They like to surprise you with free appys too ;)

For high brow good food my money is on Shiro at 15th and Cambie. They use top ingredients and are actually Japanese.

For Izakaya style I love Chopstick in Yale Town. Great atmosphere, tons of cool food, and always something new to try.

For cheap/all you can eat I'm not to picky but don't mind that place on Burrard right on the North side of the bridge. otherwise there's a good place at 4th and Burrard called Sushi Bar.

Nagano is great... I usually goto the newport location..
