GAME: Vancouver Canucks (32-21-4) vs. Chicago Blackhawks (22-27-8).
The Canucks came out flying Wednesday night in Minnesota and showing them no love on Valentine’s Day to take two points and first place in the Northwest with a 3-2 overtime victory.
Markus Naslund and Daniel Sedin, who up until Wednesday night were held scoreless against the Wild, both scored in regulation for the Canucks. Sami Salo scored in the extra frame to steal the win with just 40 seconds left on the clock.
The win put the Canucks third in the Western conference and is now 10 points up Colorado, who are currently at the bottom of the division.
The Canucks hope to extend their winning streak to three for the first time since January 18th.
Friday’s game will also be time for the Canucks to redeem themselves against the Blackhawks after a less than stellar effort last week when the Hawks were in Vancouver. That resulted in a 3-0 shutout win for the Hawks.
"It's a huge, huge win for us. You're playing for first spot and all the adrenalin comes out of you if you get the goal. It was a good feeling. It was a huge confidence-booster for everyone here."
Hopefully Alain Vigneault’s Canucks can carry the fire they had in Minnesota with them and use that confidence to pull out another two.
The taste of the loss from last Wednesday will motivate the team to working harder and if they can play like it’s a divisional game, it’ll be a good 60 minutes.
The league’s worst power-play and the best penalty kill will be an interesting matchup to watch. The Hawks are last with the man-advantage but to add salt to the wound – at home, they’re power-play has only converted on 9.5% of their chances.
On 12 tries, Chicago’s been unable to score on the power-play but that’s without giving credit to the Canuck’s first-ranked penalty kill.
The Canucks welcome Jan Bulis back after missing two games with a bruised shoulder but may be without Trevor Linden, who missed practice Thursday after blocking a shot off his foot. It will a game time decision whether or not he plays.
The Canucks are up 2-1 in the series and each team has been shutout.
Chicago’s looking to even the series and have won three of their last five games, picking up seven out of a possible 10 points in that span.
Martin Havlat’s on a season-high seven-game point streak, with 12 points during that time and a goal in all but one game.
Former Canuck, Adrian Aucoin was the only one to get one past Roberto Luongo last time.
Patrick Lalime, who earned his only start and win of the season against Vancouver is not likely going to stare down Luongo at the other end of the rink. Hawks’ starting goalie, Nikolai Khabibulin, should start Friday night.
Nucks 7-0 ITS CALLED REVENGE BITCHES !11!!!!!!
