UN is Successful!

UN successfully lodges entire head in ass: Somehow misses dire inequality issues in Africa in favor of pointing out how badly Canada handles First Nations Women's Issues.

AUGH! This is so retarded it makes my head hurt. Given the ear of the entire world the UN decides that its time that Canada's less than fair treatment of First Nations' women is less than equal.

Never mind that enormous AIDS epidemic in Africa. Don't worry about honor killings in the Middle East and Africa, don't worry about the mass exploitation of women in 3rd world countries, nope, Canada is the real villain here...

Jesus-tap-dancing-Christ... If those guys don't learn to pick their battles they will succeed in becoming utterly irrelevant.

Canada's treatment of Indigenous people IS inhumane, and any specific act of oppression internationally, doesn’t diminish this fact, but rather opens up the discussion of unifying struggle.

No the real villain (or origin of) exploitation in third world countries today is monopoly capitalism following colonialism. Canada falls under the category of major imperialist countries (along with the US, UK and France). The exploitation of women in Sudan comes from the same origins as the exploitation of Indigenous women here, namely being the greed that is fulfilled by the governments of said countries.

Instead of unifying struggle, and interests based on class, your reactionary comments would at best support more division, and abstract understanding of why things are they way there are in third world countries.

They are anything BUT irrelevant, the UN is a mechanism, that is doing exactly what’s is supposed to be doing - NOT acting in the interests of regular/poor/working people across the world and compounding economic disparity which in turn provides the conditions and catalyst for any number of human rights infringements whether its rape, plunder or murder.

And before you burn out all your brain cells coming up with the perfect witty retort, use them to read this small booklet titled:

"The United Nations: It's Role and Failures"

I'm not too educated on these issues. But, n. american people and our government are leaps and bounds ahead of those third world countries because the people who moved here 200 years ago went through so many things that have taught us equality and tolerance. It's not that we don't care about woman's rights in other countries, it's just that it's so hard to help those countries evolve out of ignorance when it took us hundreds of years ourselves to attempt to abolish racism and to foster the idea of woman's rights in our own country.

It's true. We do need to focus on helping our third world neighbours. But it needs to be handled very carefully as this time of hatred has been bred by generations of cultural indifference. It's not as easy as stepping in and solving Aids or years of violence and civil war. Otherwise we would have solved Iraq's non-stop violence. Would it be a good idea to help out israel and palestine's multi-millenium war as well? Probably, but probably not.

World peace can happen. It will just take years and years of patience and understanding. If it seems appauling to you and me right now, imagine how many people have been griping about this BEFORE us!
