I'm one of the rare people who like Sopel I think... so to say the least I'm pretty stoked that he's back. Hell... anyone is better than Bulis anyways!
Smolinski is a decent pick up as well.... he's had a fairly decent season for Chicago and I think he'll fit in with the current dynamic no problem. |

Seriously who do you feel better having on defense, Sopel or Krajicek? Now you have 2 good defensive pairings (Salo/Ohlund and Bieksa/Mitchel) and one decent one (Sopel/Fitzpatrick). That leaves the Canucks with Edler, krajicek, and Tremblay if someone goes down with an injury.

Liking these pickups, even if it is going to lead to the occasional sharp intake of breath that used to occur on occasions where Sopes tried to carry the puck out in front of his own goalie. |

Both good pick for draft picks. Nonis impressed me. I honestly didn't th ink he would jump the gun like this. Without giving up any players, and placing kessler on Injured Reserve. Though thats not really him but well just say it is.
Sopel should fit in quite well. We could really use the offense. Suprisingly his plus minus isn't bad either at +2 Smolinski is also a well rounded player to pick up. A centermen who can pick up points and is pretty defensively sound. Go Nonis. |

smolinski: 14 goals, 23 assists 37 points and a +10 playing on the hawks. not bad...
and mitchell has been fucking awesome for us this year, he's not there for his offensive production, that's never been his game, he's there to play hard-rock defence against the best players in the league and clear the crease in front of luongo. it's mainly because of him that iginla has produced next to nothing against the canucks this year for instance... anyways, overall i think these are two great trades. the nucks didn't give up too much a second round (conditional) for smolinski, a guy who fills an urgent need at centre, who'll look good centering a line with naslund on rw and burrows or bulis on lw (i know, but he's what we've got, and he's actually come on lately) sopel is a solid top four defenceman, not bad for a 2nd and a 4th rounder, he gives us legitimate depth on the blue line, and he should fit in quick havign played for the nucks recently. think the nucks had three second round picks this year so after it all clears we still have our 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders this year. not bad considering some of the retarded trades that have been happening, like, i don't know, ktachuk! |

Just wait for the Guerin trade....
EDIT** Smolinski, 35, joins the Canucks from Chicago, having played in 62 games and recorded 37 points (14-23-37) and plus ten in 2006-07. The 14-year NHL veteran has career totals of 619 points (262-357-619) in 972 games played with six different teams. In his NHL career, Smolinski has registered three career hat tricks and has recorded three game-winning goals this season. The centre has appeared in 99 NHL playoff games, tallying 45 points (20-25-45). He also has international experience, having played for USA?s World Junior (1991), World Cup (1997 and 2004) and World Championship (1999) teams. The 6?1?, 208 pound native of Toledo, Ohio was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins, 21st overall, in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. |

^ what the fuck does that mean...
bieksa has been HUGE for the nucks this year, he's the best bargain in nhl defencemen in the league, he's got he same amount of goals as bryan mccabe and only one point off, and maccabe is earning 7 mil plus this year! we've got bieksa this year and next for $500,000! he's a legitimate top four, and has taken a huge chunk of the workload off of salo and ohlunds shoulders, plus he plays with a chip on his shoulder and will stand and fight, something the canucks are a little lacking in. |
