First of all it doesn't really matter who's fourth or whatever. This is about adding depth. Now if a defenseman goes down injured (as it looked like Bieksa might have done a couple of games ago), we're in a much better position.

Secondly you're out to lunch with your assesment of number 3. Kevin has been a revelation this year. If he "fucks up a lot" it's probably because he's basically new to the NHL and is still finding his game. Fact of the matter is, I don't think he does "fuck up a lot", and he's only going to get better. Besides point production, what about the grit, toughness and mean streak he's added on our blueline and to our team overall? Qualities the Canucks have been desperate for for years now...

Put Ohlund with Sopel, Salo with Kraijeck, Mitchel w/ Bieksa... looks pretty damn good to me.

If a guy with like 10 years NHL experience is "equal" to a guy who's just getting his first break, what does that tell you?

What does it tell you that hockey analysts are already tentatively floating the "C" word when talking about his grit, determination and character?

Kevin Bieksa need not be sweating bullets about his ice time due to today's acquisition.

so let's see, bieksa hits, plays physical, plays pretty good positional d, contributes offensively, including timely goals, fights when he's called on, and from what i've seen this year doesn't turn over the puck that much for a guy in his first season....
