A Followup to Stand Up! from a unique point of view
HI I am new, so please go research what I will state here before I state my protest.
History lesson: First the BC government interned Ukrainians during WW1 just because they came from Austria-Hungary. Then they interned the Japanese during WW2, and the males who protested this injustice were deemed enemy aliens and actually put in a prison camp. Meanwhile all their property and posessions were sold off to pay their way through the way (except for communities for those Japanese who could pay their way). Finally the Doukhabors were thrown in internment camps recently left unoccupied!
Thus it is with the blood, sweat and tears of these people that prevents BC from doing more than SLAPP suits and injunctions paid for by corporations.
As a Japanese-Canadian, I can say that my people's experience prevents BC from putting Muslim-Canadians, ME peoples and even South Asians in internment camps.
Yet a large protest, or even a riot, in any of those communities would not stop the government from quietly "disappearing" people without more than the simple harrassment of my fellow Canadians e.g. the Pandher case where 3 RCMP officers harrassed a citizen of Surrey.
But I have no faith in government nor even in the political activists.
This is all I have to say:
One by one, our rights in B.C. are being lost.
While our right to protest has become eroded by legislation, not all the protesters are in solidarity. Some of them are even throwing a monkey wrench into the struggle.
However, I refuse to become militant. For non-violent confrontation works for me.
The B.C. Liberals haven't changed from my grandparents' days.
Today, it isn't the Japanese community that's under attack. Now it's almost anyone who won't follow the corporate agenda, and become the sheep at photo-ops where the participants gleefully throw our tax dollars at symbols of the attack on the environment, on the homeless, and on anyone with the guts to stand up to them.
I refuse to follow the New Left because they vowed to bring disorder and chaos; and I refuse to follow the NDP because their compassion is shallow.
For those people in power will not resist the temptation to abuse their authority. Lord Acton still has it right after all those years: "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
THE ONLY ANSWER IS NON-VIOLENT CONFRONTATION.
Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect -- the four truths I live by.
So when is the next rave? We need to get more PLUR for the good of the Earth.
