Drinking where you work.
A few of the guys from the kitchen and I went pretty hard last night and there were a few blackout points. I don't have a lot of experience drinking in public so I was worried about whether or not I jeopardized my job. Turns out I was just sitting and having a good time and nothing came of it, but I know how I can get when I black out and it's not good. I've never been a graceful drunk.
For any of you that work in a bar, club, lounge, or anywhere that serves alcohol... what are your thoughts on drinking at your workplace on a night off? |

My boss actually prefers us to have a couple of drinks throughout the night for that very reason, but I'm not talking about just a couple of drinks while working.

literally....i grew up working in the restauraunt buisness....from 18-22. i worked at earls on top on robson st. every nite after work was a pissup. i learnd how to handle "professional drinking" pretty fast.
after that job was the old spag in new west....again resauraunt pissups the job i have now is no different. all the sales managers and all the regionals go out drinking all the time....you really just need to know how to handle yourself. ....i swear to fucking god, more deals are closed, more buisness is gained, and more promotions are granted on the golf course after a few pints, or at a pub after a few pints.....just seems to be the way it is... im all FUCKING for! professional drinking. lol.......if you can handle it your set. BUT,if you call in sick the next day....your fucked. llol Last edited by Revolver; Mar 30, 07 at 12:48 AM. |

ITS A SYSTEM WHERE A BUNCH OF DNS SERVERS SPREAD THROUGH THE WORLD SHARE AN IP, AND EACH SERVER WILL RESPOND TO DNS REQUEST WITH IPS RELATED TO ITS GENERAL AREA. WHEN YOUR COMPUTER DOES A DNS LOOKUP YOUR ISP WILL AUTOMATICALLY ROUTE YOU TO THE NEAREST INSTANCE OF THESE DNS SERVERS' SHARED IP, MEANING THAT THE DNS SYSTEM CAN DIRECT YOU TO A COMPUTER STORING A LOCAL VERSION OF THE WEBPAGE (BASED ON YOUR GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION).
THATS THE NUTSHELL VERSION. THERES ALSO MY WHITEPAPER VERSION, MY TECHNICAL WHITEPAPER VERSION, AND MY SALES POWERPOINT VERSION (WHICH HAS A PLOT LINE, A DELOREAN, AND EXPLORES THE PROCESS OF MARKETING TOMATO SOUP, AND THINGS CATCHING ON FIRE!) |

you should learn to become a graceful drunk. When i first started drinking, i was a jerk and rude to everyone. After working in the industry for a little over a year. I've calmed down, i know how it is and i know how rude I was back then. I've learned from time that you build up a tolerance and when you're drinking with co-workers. The last thing you want to look like is a jerkface. You jeopardize both your job and partying with good people. Now, i can go to a bar drunk as shit and look more sober than most sober people. I get let in to the bar, i converse with staff and i dont come out sounding like an idiot. Its all about how you present yourself. So to answer that question, I just came back from the lamplighter. I'm pretty wasted and i wasnt working. |

I am really not for getting wasted with people I have to work with now, but I'm working in a professional office environment. Even at the xmas parties I tried to keep as much of my composure as I could even if I got super drunk because I would feel really weird about some of the people I work with seeing me like that. |
