I have recently started hiking, I am really enjoying it. I learned how to play Racquetball which is also really fun I have played lots of sports but never any that involved a racquet. I love to be active but I also have never been able to motivate myself to just go for a run. This way I am doing something active and keeping myself amused at the same time :)

I started going to the gym at the end of November and so far have lost 23 pounds - cardio, circuit and crunches. So far it's been awesome...went from a size 9/11 to a 5/7 (depending on the stores of course). I'm still planning 7 more pounds lost and a bit more toning, but the past few weeks I've been hovering (and Easter didn't help much either!!)

courtney, the reason you probably hate the gym is it's the most boring thing ever invented. my mon-fri workout plan goes:
yoga strippers golf strippers yoga if any of this is of interest you should start coming with me, if you can stick to the yoga for a few weeks your butt will get like 2 inches higher! |

I run, and it rules.
I try to go 3x per week for an hour - it doesn't seem like that long when you're actually out there. Adrienne is totally right about the run 2 walk 2 idea, I always start out my run like that and each run I push myself to run longer and walk less. Once you've been running 3x week for a month or so you'll really see your endurance skyrocket. I also do crunches first thing in the morning and just before bed. Do them in reps of 20 (10 if you can't make 20), and give yourself 30 seconds to breathe between reps. Don't just do them straighforward, make sure that you cross your legs and get the sides, too! Another good ab exercise is to lie flat on your back with your legs pointed straight up in the air and point your toes at the ceiling. Then, reach up with your arms and point your hands toward your toes. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat. Do this in reps of 10. I got kinda lazy over the winter (I blame the cold weather) and gained a few pounds in the tummy region. Over the last two weeks I've cut out all fast food, and started timing my meals properly again, and I am already seeing results. Breakfast = bowl of multi-grain cheerios w/skim milk, banana, glass of 1/2 water 1/2 orange juice (too much juice makes my tummy acidy and painful) Lunch = big salad - I buy the prepacked iceberg lettuce with shredded cabbage and carrots and then add 1/2 an avocado, 1/2 a red pepper (they are the heathiest, so skip green and go red!), a tomato, some cucumber, a bit of shredded cheese and walnuts or pecans and fat-free salad dressing; and an apple Snack = TLC (tasty little crackers) in the honey-sesame flavour. They're delicious and have only 2g fat in 9 crackers! Dinner (never, ever after 7pm!) = Salad similar to the one above, brown rice and black beans. Try to avoid dairy especially products that are high in fat. Don't eat after 7pm, this will give your body time to digest your food while you're still awake and you may even have a chance to burn off some of the calories before bed. Stay away from coffee and pop, they can make you retain water and will most likely make you feel bloated. Water and herbal teas are the best, and if you drink juice, don't drink too much! People don't realize how much sugar is in juice and it can take a lot to work off the calories from drinking juice. Try to eat your meals at the same time every day and beware of evening and late night snacking! If you absolutely must eat after 7pm, just snack on healthy foods like apple slices, baby carrots, celery, etc. It will satisfy your urge to eat without loading your body full of crap to process overnight! I've lost the 6 pounds I gained already. It's pretty much impossible for me to drop below the weight I'm at now, so I'll be continuing to tone up. I also SWEAR by "Re-Cleanse". It's a basic 7-day cleanse that will help you get into the right type of eating habits. It is all about controlling portions of different foods and eating the right foods at the right time of day. It's not one of those "here, drink these diet shakes" cleanses, and I guarantee that if you actually follow it for the full week you'll lose weight and just feel healthier overall! Whenever I find myself slipping into the habit of eating fast food, I grab a Re-Cleanse (it's about $25 at GNC), and stick to it for a week. It's easy to follow because it has all of your portions laid out for you, all you have to do is pick which ingredients you're going to use and go for it! |

but if your looking to 'get healthy' ...by all means listen to these ladies, they offerred a lot of really great advice. Personally, i don't think you need to lose any weight and would already look great in a bikini...but i understand the need to eat right and take care of your body, i personally love the run/walk thing...but you shouldn't listen to me i eat wendys every other night..and also might start listening to my friends and family who tell me to eat better foods...good luck!
