Virgina Tech Tell Media to Get the Hell Outta Dodge

Virginia Tech Student Government Says 'Media, Go Home' - NBC
Quote:
The Student Government Association at Virginia Tech is asking the media outlets to please leave campus.

While the school says they won't ask reporters to leave, the students remain adamant that having their school crawling with cameras is not helping them grieve. They are asking for a return to normal--starting with no reporters, photographers or live trucks.
........
What a shockingly common sense request. What's even more shocking is that it appears the media is actually listening:

As of Tuesday morning, most media outlets had gone home, including NBC29's crews.
I'm kinda hoping that this was either mis-quoted or there's a typo in this quote from the student government member Emily Webb:

We don't want to be defined by just one moment, in the Virginia Tech history, so just be respectful and try your best to don't find your story here, go find your story somewhere else, because the only story we have is that we're strong, and that we're going to get through this all together
I've got to say I'm awfully impressed somebody had the balls to push the media out of their tragedy. I can only hope that people see this and recognize that the news machine consumes whole cities to feed the curiosity of the masses.

gnosis has a spectacular aura aboutgnosis has a spectacular aura about
^That's like pushing water downriver.

The story was played out, so the media were all about to truck out, soon, anyway, so, no real big surprise.

Actually, the big surprise is why the campus people waited so long to make such a request.
Especially while playing the grieve card...

Frosty
(just seems odd)

I watched Oprah yesterday, and she did an amazing show, and quite honestly has been amazing through this whole tragedy.

From the beginning she has shunned the media for their coverage of this event. She has refused to mention the killer's name or show the photos/videos, nor has she done any sort of profile on the killer.

Yesterday she honored each of the victims and praised their lives.

The media giants should take a lesson from her.
