btw.... my prediction is that mid-fight... Ray mysterio junior does a moonsalt from the roof and kills both fighters instantly...
and then Joe Roegan has sex with the 2 dead bodies infront of millions of horrified PPV subscribers and then dana white comes in rubs tito down with some chocolate flavoured massage oil and they make up Trust me, i've watched enough UFC to know this. i want rampage to win.
After the last 6 months of upsets, i'm not calling a fight again though. I think the people that do well against Chuck are the ones who aren't intimidated by his striking (i.e. Rampage in '03 and Couture before that) but nowadays, I think everyone is giving him a bit too much respect and hence they get caught. If the same Ramage that beat him in Pride shows up to fight, I think he could win again... but page hasn't looked that great in his last couple of outings (even if he's won his last 4 fights). |

Crocop didn't even train for the cage or elbows, and good as he was he was figured out as just a counter striker with a good sprawl. He also lacked agression in that fight. On the other hand, Gonzaga, the way he PERFECTLY captured Crocop's body kick and took him down is a move I have no doubt he drilled THOUSANDS of times in the gym. He didn't back up, turtle, or get scared. He just countered. Every move looked purposeful like he could predict what was coming next while Crocop looked lost at times because his opponent wasn't walking into his sweetspot. Before this Crocop was one of the most feared fighters and I have no doubt all the up and comers study this guy's every nuance and habit, down to a t. And that's just it, they studied, and he just stayed the same. Also gotta remember that MMA is more fair than boxing. Boxers tend to get their records padded with a bunch of cans and are protected from real competition in the beginning if they are seen as a prospect. That doesn't happen so much in MMA, and especially UFC. Basically I think fight fans gotta get over the fact that the best fighter can lose sometimes, just like the Bulls of the Jordon era could lose a game. In such a case, the best way to decide champions is a GP. |

I think in this day and age we're now seeing the grappler learning how to strike... You'll notice a lot of the upsets have been grapplers who are out-striking known strikers and almost catching them off guard and winning via strikes (Hendo/Silva, Couture/Sylvia, Serra/GSP, Gonzaga/Crocop). I think a lot of grapplers are getting good at striking and really take the strikers - who are training against grappler gameplans - out of their game. |

You also have to remember that Cro-cop has shown a history of getting kind of cocky and complacent when he gets a few big wins in a row. It happened when he lost to Randleman, it happened when he lost to nog (where he was dominating the entire 10-minute first round), it happened against Hunt too. Each time, he came back and totally wrecked shop. I'd hate to be cro-cop's next opponent... |

Because boxers never ever get caught with big shots.

^ that's what i meant tho. The strikers are focusing their training on defending against grapplers and the grapplers are surprising them with good striking.
I also think people are gameplanning too specifically for their opponents based on past fights and when a fighter changes up their usual strategy, they get confused and then caught... More guys need to focus on training the what-ifs - like fedor spars after spinning in circles to emulate getting rocked by a punch... |
