The format has a good chance of being effective if done right. Although I'd question it, the Jack format (it's a formula and is used by several stations in North America), didn't retain it's popularity for more then a year.
If it is ran well, it might have a chance, but it wouldn't be able to be one of the top stations. Also what I worry about is their advertising revenue. Advertisers care about demographics, and from what I've heard of Crave, there is no clear age demographic (it's skewed towards females). It's a hard sale to get any buisness to comit to a station like that.
Personally, I've found the format refreshing to a degree. For the next three weeks there isn't any announcers. Hopefully, they can pull in some strong announcers, and contests soon.
My prediction is that the station won't last past December. But I'm hesitant to say that untill I see their announcer line up. But like I said, I don't think they'll be able to bring in the revenue needed to run a station.
But the best of luck to them, and I feel bad for the people that lost their jobs, one of them was a rather good friend. But in radio, as bad as it sounds, you shouldn't expect job security.
BTW- I've only listened to it here and there today, are they currently airing any comercials?
