Clubbing in the Big Apple

I was originally planning on hitting up europe. But i'm going to new york then hong kong instead. Europe one day maybe... Anyways, I take off for New York in about 2 hours.

Do you guys know of some good electronic clubs that i can check out? No hip hop. Breaks preferably and i can't find too much online. Do you guys have any recommendations?

I hear the meat packers district is the way to go. But i also hear the clubs are very hit or miss.

go to club avalon.... they have taken an old church and have converted it into a club.... fuckin sick venue..

from what I've heard cielo is haven in new york for all house heads.

you could always go the superclub route with pacha and crobar.

"Avalon" is actually the former Limelight, the seminal NYC club where Michael Alig's club kids (keoki, james st james, et al) used to party in the early 90s. It was bought by the Boston-based Avalon firm several years ago. NYC is a shitty place to party. Guiliani killed it and the foreign clubbing consortiums moved in.. hence Avalon, Crobar, etc. even Twilo is now run as Spirit and owned by the Dublin clubbing mecca of the same name. Cielo is cool and definately worth a visit for its "log cabin chic" alone, though it is quite small. Try to see Francois K on a Monday night. the Shelter is still going strong for proper house lovers.. most people there don't do drugs and don't even drink. go at the beginning of the night and people are stretching out, getting ready for the dance marathon ahead. Timmy Regisford is the man you want to see spin. i don't know if he's still doing his thing, but it's worth checking around to see if junior vasquez is throwing any afterhours parties
