The term "asia" involves many different ethnicities and cultures that are each unique in their own way. There are so many different cultural differences between say, korean culture and Japanese culture. Sure, there are some ethnic similarities due to intertwining histories and religion... But to answer simply "yes or no" to this question would be pretty.. erm, unrepresenatative.
To which asian culture are you referring? Chinese? I don't know much about chinese cultural values and what the parenting tendencies and trends are, but I'm betting that this has more to do with how that specific family operates rather than to them being asian. If anything I have personally noticed that *many of* (not all) the chinese families i have grown up around were very competitive about their childrens' successes, and have tended to embrace the opportunity to show off their children's abilities rather than to degrade them infront of other families. Because the person happend to be a jackass, and asian means it's a cultural thing. Ahh, the mystical and mysterious culture of the east. For being someone who constantly posts links to "thought provoking" articles, you constantly ask questions that fly in the face of common sense. |
