corgi!
this thread made me think of when people were trying to explain to alla the way dollar conversions work, and (i think it was jim) a picture of two puppies were posted, one with an eye patch and one without. OBS YOU WANT THE ONE WITHOUT TH EYEPATCH. |

These are the only pics so far really. I'm going to see them on Sunday and I'll snap some more. I don't think either of them will get too big though. The breed is only a medium size to begin with.

I believe he's going to skip a heat or two with the mother and then breed her again. They're purebred but he doesn't bother with papers (dogs are pets, not hoity-toity accessories, haha) so he'll sell them a bit cheaper I think too.
Would you like me to keep you updated on the next litter? I mean I think the 2nd puppy is going to be sold in this litter to be honest, but I'm not 100% on that. |

lol Gnosis, no puppy has the strength to hold it in. You can train any 3 month old puppy to go on command with positive reinforcement but you cannot train a puppy to hold it in instantly. That takes almost the entire length of their infancy.
Cdn_bdr as for deciding on which one, I would just roll around on the floor with them and see which one you click with best. It'll be hard but just go with it before you get attached to both and have double the poop to clean up haha. Shiba's are such dignified dogs! They were my initial choice until i met my Boston terrier. Just look at discernible traits like how hyper or aggressive one is over the other and decide which fits best with your lifestyle. |

Tell him to do some obedience exercises every day and often. Walk the dog on a leash around the house but never let him walk through the door first. If he tries to dart through the door pull back on the leash and say no, then get him to sit, and start to walk through again if they start following get them to stop again. When you can walk through, while they sit, and you call them through the door then give him a treat/praise. Do this over and over constantly correcting the behaviour in a calm voice. They don't need to be yelled at to listen they just need to hear a negative tone then a positive one.
Never let them win tug of war especially when they are young and learning how to play still. You can finally have your dog obedient and someone will come over and get the boston all pumped up with a rope then just let the dog pull it away destroying all the work you did. Eventually you should be able to open the door and he won't run through it, or if you are coming home he'll just jump out the gate to greet but will follow you back in. You have to stay very consistent with bostons as they get excited and distracted easily. If the dog can sit and lay down already you can train them to understand the word "treat." It's a very distinct higher tone so they perk up and know a treat is coming, just say it, then get them to sit, then give a treat. That way if you are at the park and your dog is going nutso on someone else's dog you just yell treat and he'll come running. You can get soft dried meat sticks that easily break off into little pinches. This way they get the taste but not a whole treat since you'll be using a lot to train. Bostons are suckers for a treat and will pretty much do whatever you say. You just need to draw some connections for them. Get multiple people to do the same exercises with positive re-enforcement and the boston will be more attentive. Always keep them on a leash outside but try it indoors without a leash, doing the same door exercises and training them to do other things. I trained my boston to go lay in her bed when people are eating. Then after she gets her dinner. Never feed her human food or anything you are eating. Always make her sit somewhere while you eat then feed her. Otherwise it'll lead to no good lol. I found now that my boston is almost one year she is 90% house broken and will be very calm and listen to the people she is used to. Any new person or someone who is not there to often is bound to get jumped all over but that's just the breed. But the other things should be trainable with consistancy. when i have a dog ill do this, because i think trained dogs are alot happier then the ones who run around all the time, those dogs tend to get very anxious because they dont have some one to lead them. the unforunate thing is my friend has done the exact opposite of everything you done with your terrier. |
