UFC 79 Liddell vs Silva, Hughes Vs St Pierre
Alright.... I'm a little excited about this one. As you probably know its on PPV tommorow... Anyways.... Here's my wrap what I think will happen.
Silva will beat Liddell... I got a feeling that Silva is going to use Liddell as an example and send a message across to the rest of the fighters that he means business... Hughes Vs St Pierre will be interesting however. Honestly it will be a tough one. St Pierre is an amazing fighter with alot of martial arts experience and few great matches. However Hughes is a machine... and is also crazy. As much as I am going for St Pierre on this I think Hughes will win by submission. Your take? |

st pierre all the way there is nothing matt hughes has over st pierre not even wrestling.
and chuck all the way, wandy has the absolute worst style for fighting chuck and he has a weak chin ive been saying for years chuck would knock wandy out guess i get to find out tommorrow. |

i think we may see a different wand since he's been training with couture - arguably the best game-planner right now... we'll see tho.
Chuck has crumpled under the pressure of true strikers recently and even when he beat strikers, he was often getting out-classed early on (Mezger, Overeem) - he's built his game in the last couple years by knocking out grapplers who were trying to stand. I do agree that on paper, chuck's style is best suited for someone like silva, but the intrigue is that Chuck has never faced someone as aggressive as silva either. |

Whats with it with K1 superstars coming to the UFC and getting destroyed? Has anyone kept a track as to what the ratio of losses of K1 fighters to UFC fights..
If silva would of had it his way so you can use his knee's Liddell would have been in alot of trouble. Kinda disappointed with the next 2 UFC lineup's.... Although I want to see lesnar get his ass handed to him... |

I think it's a combination of many things - first and foremost the rules and the adjustment to fighting in the cage. The Pride stars who have found success in the octagon (Andersen Silva, Rampage) cut their teeth on a few fights in the cage before coming straight to the Octagon. Silva was without the weapons that brought him the most success in Pride - stomps, kicks, and knees to a downed opponent. During the 2nd round when Silva dropped chuck I bet his natural instinct was the kick/stomp the hell out of chuck but that would have been illegal in UFC. Also, Pride was in a ring and many fighters may not be used to their opponents using the cage against them (either on the ground or in the clinch). I also think for Shogun, he undertrained (he's never gassed like that in pride ever and they had 10 minute first rounds there) and took Forest lightly. For others, I also think they're crumbling under the pressure coming in with so much hype. But honestly, who else has gotten "destroyed?" Sokudju was a wild card, his last two wins were impressive over top 10 guys, but he's never really been tested (both can be argued to be loucky shot KOs) that and Machida is just really fucking good. Henderson went the distance with Rampage and he's a natural middleweight and it was a pretty close fight. Silva and Liddell put on one of the most exciting fights of the year and although Liddell won, it was a war. Noguiera had a scare in his debut but other than the head kick, he dominated the rest of the fight with Herring. And of course, Rampage and Andersen are champs in their divisions. Also, depending on who you talk to, certain "supplements" happen to be legal in Japan yet illegal here in NA - but that's never been proven... Last edited by dj_soo; Dec 31, 07 at 12:10 AM. |
