assuming that culture, industry, or whatever plays a factor in genius, can anyone name any 'original' unschooled geniuses who came onto their own without partaking in a system? male or female.
I'm just trying to develop some ideas here I have of my own about the nature of genius. |

By the way...
A few famous female writers/poets/philosophers of modern western history: Emily Dickenson - Poet Jane Austin - Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice etc... Dorthy Parker - Member of the new york round table, writer, poet Ayn Rand (not a fan of her writing style but still very famous) Mary Shelley - Frankenstein Hypatia of Alexandria - Math genius during greek times who taught science and wrote volumes on math and science. Christine de Pizan - Wrote "city of ladies", early feminist Dorothea Lange - Photographer, documented depression and Japanese relocation in America (you'd recognize her photos if you saw them) |

because it's not proper for a woman to boast about her intellectual achievements. she lets a man take the credit in order to avoid his jealousy.
indeed, most important inventions were actually the work of women, including fire, sexu equality and the earliest repositories of cultural more known as "old wives' tales", which were orally transmitted until men figured out how to turn runes into writing. women also help developed writing, which was originally used to record moon phases so they could monitor their fertile periods. of course, most of this is conjecture as women realized that writing about their inventions would lead to a big fight over who invented what with the men. what did women trade all their inventions for with the men? children, who they taught through oral story telling. so the reason why female geniuses are unheard of is they learn very quickly to let men take the credit. also female geniuses tend pick lousy mates sometimes. a good example of this is einstein's first wife, Mileva Marić. |

1. they've managed to read an entire novel of hers that wasn't atlas shrugged 2. they've managed to read any ayn rand and just say these statements because they seem to go along with what everyone else thinks of her Back to the original topic, the sad part is that females were excluded from being artistic, intellectual, etc. so much for the last eon or so that we tend to take a few women that did do something and blow up mediocre accomplishments so that they can get a place in history books or literary texts. Yes, Emily Dickenson was a great poet, but I wouldn't call her a genius. Edna St. Vincent Millay was perhaps one of the most innovative female poets in the last 100 years but you hardly hear a word about her because she was bisexual, never had children and lead a very avant garde lifestyle that had her shunned from even being included in the way she ought to be in discussions of female artistic genius. Also, if you want to talk about female artistic genius in the last 100 years, look at Martha Graham! Why are we limiting ourselves in a discussion about genius to just people who have made creative strides in the artistic community? What about science?
