Probably one of the hardest things i've ever had to do
So i'm driving around in coquitlam, about to head to vancouver when i see that lougheed highway is completely shut down... I think nothing of it assuming it was road construction or something..
I am in vancouver at around 3pm when i get a call from one of my girlfriends who is distraught and can barely speak.. I ask her what the problem is but she is crying so hard i can't even really understand anything she is saying... I get her to calm down, and she asks me for my friends number... I ask her whats wrong and she tells me that his younger sister (someone i was also friends with) had been in a traffic accident and that she has passed away... at 12pmish My friend at this point doesn't even know, because nobody can get a hold of him... word spreads and my phone is blowing up with calls from my friends etc asking what the hell happened and why etc etc.. I keep trying to call my friend and hes not answering his phone still... It's around 5pm now and pretty much all of her close friends know... and i get a call from my friend.. I answer it and say "Are you alright man, is there anything i can do?" and he replies with ".... what do you mean?" at that point i got an extremely sick feeling in my stomach, because i realized that he didn't even know yet... I don't know how but i somehow told him what had happened and then i heard his phone drop and him start crying and people in the backround freaking out asking what happened and then a couple minutes later the call just ended.. Shitty thing is that we recently had somewhat of a falling out, but when something like this happens none of that shit even matters and you're family again... So heres a fuck you to the dump truck driver that was going over 100km in a 60 zone and hit 3 other cars, ran over a pole and went over a median and hit this innocent girl waiting at a crosswalk (not even on the crosswalk itself, but the island where you press the button and wait for the signal to walk) Stuff like this really puts everything into perspective and really makes you open your eyes... Crazy how someone can be there one minute, and then have their life taken away then next by some idiot on the road. |

I had a similar situation like this last year, it was tough to say the least, though being the bearer of bad news like you were takes strength. You did what you had to do...if you didn't know her well it doesn't necessarily stop the empty feeling.
Try and be there for your friend, and take this as a reminder of how precious life is. |

in an odd way, it's a very soothing and accepting (im just rewording your "comforting") view on death. Kudos for the inspiring post.

i lost my best friend to a car accident in january. nothing has been the same since. this weekend i received a phone call and a very close friend of mine is in intensive care fighting for his life right now from a car accident as well. theres nothing you could have said to make it worse or better.....it is what it is. and all you can do is gather strength from people you care about.
im sending out major positive vibes to my friend right now.......it would be too tragic to lose someone else so close and at such a young age. my thoughts are with your friend and their family. |
