wine fans, wine club?
someone at work mentioned the concept of a wine club, one where you meet each week and do a wine tasting and basically enjoy wine together whether it be trying new wines or learning more about the processes or history of certain wines. or even going on vinyard tours in the summer.
who's interested in doing this? i'll ask my bosses for advice on how these things are best managed, i suspect they'll want to be in on this even. |

no, the LDB can't do that. some people might say it encourages alcoholism for us employees.....so no discount for us.
the only thing even close to a discount that's given to anyone is for the lisencee's, any business that has a liquor lisence get's the tax taken off under the assumption that they willl ad tax to the liquor when the sell it to the public. what i might be able to do is arrange for us to go to the various wine tastings and other events put on by our suppliers. from the looks of things, there's a shit tonne of events that happen and a lot of money is spent on the guests there. i also know when things go on sale or when there's promotions on too. |

i love that you got more good karma for this childish mocking post than i did for my real post about a good idea.
really speaks to the mentality some people. HEY FNK, GRADE 3 CALLED, YOU FAIL! |

i like very sharp cheese though :)
although sometimes some cheeses just taste like what a goat smells like and nothing more. working in a deli i learned this the hard way. we used to sample everything at least once, and sometimes even that was too much. |

I'd be in for a creative booze-up!
I'm a wino. In fact, me cuz had a mate in from Europe, who hosted a wine-tasting for us, here, of the different regions and grapes used. Dude was verrrry well-versed (and, basically called us N. Americans, "heathens") According to him, there are only really _4_ types of grapes that the ancient world created wine from. All the rest are bastardized from other plant strains (ie: merlot, cabernet, chiraz, etc...) But, aside from the snobbery, I'm all up for honestly enjoying an evening of different wines. Yes, I'll even bring a pallette-cleanser/appy. ...and, this is the exact same way I met our lovely and talented Carrie, as well as another board's CrazyDave. chiraz = shiraz
sorry, i can't help myself. i'm going to be taking the "product knowledge" levels 1-3 courses that my employer offers. level 3 is really intense, or so i've been told. |

Just lil' suggestion...
an awesome palatte cleanse between tastes is a dry sparkling wine. impure: Those Courses will be great fun. I did my Wine Council of Ontario Exam when I was working at Wine Rack and I learned TONS. You'll pick up a lot from customers that are regulars too. Also, if you have a Sommelier (a real one) on staff, pick their brain! oh, and Shiraz can also be called Syrah.
