honest opinion.

im currently fulltime, i have a job interview for threewave (accross the street from my house)

I want to take it.. i wanna quit current.

but it's 4 months contract, possibility of course of future contracts.
it would build up my resume and i could get a producer role out of it.
not sure the pay.

it kind of depends on what the job is and if the company historically takes contractors on full time.

my current job started as a 6 mo contract and is full time now. same with my last one. contracting to start is pretty common in IT as a way of making sure the employee can actually do the job first.

so if you're confident in your skills and think they'd bring you on full time, it could be a worthwhile risk.

Don't listen to hardstylin.

I haven't heard of many IT or development companies that don't hire their workers on a contract basis at first. The idea is that it's a lot easier to deny an extension to someone they don't want to keep around than it is to fire them after their probation period is up. Basically avoids the problem that most call centers and tech support firms run into, mainly that "Oh shit, we hired this idiot and didn't realize how incompetent he is until 4 months later. Now we need to do progressive discipline which could take us up to a year to get him fired, if he knows how to manipulate the system, so we're stuck with him giving piss-poor service until we can find some excuse to get rid of him".

I started my current job on a 3-month contract that got extended for about a year.

Be good at what you do and you probably won't lose your job. Honestly at my last extension they dropped two other guys but kept me on, so I guess I'm doing something right.

Also did you get the interview through a recruiter? If they really do want you on board (which if you're at all good at what you do they probably will) it's in their better interest to get you on a permanent position as early as possible. Usually when you do it through a recruiter those recruiters get paid like twice your rate, so it's in the interests of the company to cut out the middle man and pay you directly, because it means you end up costing them about 25% less whereas you make about an extra 50% from what you did under contract. Kind of win-win.

nay, no recruiter.. i've wanted to work at this company for a year because of its convinience, plus they make mods for Quake, UT, Army, Turok, etc.

it's straight up 1st/3rd person shooter mods.

^ what industry? no offense, but maybe it works differently in yours. i was totally afraid to take contract positions in IT at first too, but they've always turned into full time for me.

nah,i dont think so.

life would suck if you just work a job to simply 'pay the bills'.

life is too short to live like that.

its really important to do something that you enjoy doing for a living.

the really happy people that i meet along the way in my life are the ones who enjoy what they do for a living....the miserable awful people are the ones who dont.

life is too short and at our ages 20ish if you have a opp to take something that will further along your passions and what you REALLY want to do the GOD DAMMIT TAKE IT lol...

good for you for taking the gig marty...float up your res. a little abit and snag that 'producer' credit.

it sounds to me that your making the right move.

Take the 4 month contract... make sure your performance is EXCELLENT and you walk out of there at the least with glowing references from your boss and co-workers.

That type of things ALWAYS helps further a career.

It really seems like a no brainer to me. One job progresses your career, the other doesn't. I actually passed up a higher paying job to take the one I'm currently in right now because I knew it would progress my career much quicker. Now I'm in a position where I can work anywhere in North America and Europe.

The sooner you start the sooner you'll get where you want to be.

Take the job and pad your resume. Worse comes to worse, it ends after 4 months and you go back to the other one, and you add one more skillset to your resume.
good luck.
