honest opinion.
im currently fulltime, i have a job interview for threewave (accross the street from my house)
I want to take it.. i wanna quit current. but it's 4 months contract, possibility of course of future contracts. it would build up my resume and i could get a producer role out of it. not sure the pay. what would you do? |

it kind of depends on what the job is and if the company historically takes contractors on full time.
my current job started as a 6 mo contract and is full time now. same with my last one. contracting to start is pretty common in IT as a way of making sure the employee can actually do the job first. so if you're confident in your skills and think they'd bring you on full time, it could be a worthwhile risk. |

Also did you get the interview through a recruiter? If they really do want you on board (which if you're at all good at what you do they probably will) it's in their better interest to get you on a permanent position as early as possible. Usually when you do it through a recruiter those recruiters get paid like twice your rate, so it's in the interests of the company to cut out the middle man and pay you directly, because it means you end up costing them about 25% less whereas you make about an extra 50% from what you did under contract. Kind of win-win.

life would suck if you just work a job to simply 'pay the bills'. life is too short to live like that. its really important to do something that you enjoy doing for a living. the really happy people that i meet along the way in my life are the ones who enjoy what they do for a living....the miserable awful people are the ones who dont. life is too short and at our ages 20ish if you have a opp to take something that will further along your passions and what you REALLY want to do the GOD DAMMIT TAKE IT lol... good for you for taking the gig marty...float up your res. a little abit and snag that 'producer' credit. it sounds to me that your making the right move. |

MARTY SOMETHING IVE ALWAYS KINDA TOLD MYSELF IS THAT YOU HAVE 10-20 YEARS TO FUCK UP YOUR EMPLOYMENT SITUATION IN PURSUIT OF BETTER THINGS, SO YOU MAY AS WELL DO SHIT THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
EVERYBODY HATES THE 35 YEAR OLD BURNOUT WHO SPENDS HIS KIDS COLLEGE FUND TO START A CANDLE COMPANY IN HIS ATTIC BECAUSE HE CANT LIVE WITH THE IDEA OF A RINGING PHONE ANYMORE l |

It really seems like a no brainer to me. One job progresses your career, the other doesn't. I actually passed up a higher paying job to take the one I'm currently in right now because I knew it would progress my career much quicker. Now I'm in a position where I can work anywhere in North America and Europe.
The sooner you start the sooner you'll get where you want to be. |
