Seriously though, if I can go to the mom & pop store down the street and get exactly what I wanted whereas kinko's tells me that the picture will move around from print to print and charge me twice as much, it's kinda a no-brainer. |

I went to the one on pender. I gave them a jpg to print and they told me to print it on colour paper and that was the only way they'd print it.... wtf?
So I took the jpg to a mom & pop a little further down pender (I think the sign in the window just said "PRINT SHOP"), the guy even fixed up the jpg for me before sending it to print. Also printed a few test runs on paper just to show me that he could do it properly before printing out on my final-copy paper (that kinko's told me I had to go to a Staples and buy myself because they didn't have CD labels on stock). It has nothing to do with procedure and everything to do with customer service. The fact of the matter was the guy at the mom & pop was willing to make sure that I got the product that I wanted, whereas kinko's was more intent on making me do things their way and wasn't really paying attention to what I, the customer, wanted. As a result they don't get my business, and I tell all my friends to avoid them. PLUS I have a few friends that used to work for Kinko's and they pretty much say that fucking the customer over as much as possible is pretty much corporate policy there, and if you tried to move outside of the restrictions put in place you essentially get in trouble. No thank you, I'd rather be treated like a person rather than a number. |

I've used Kinko's a couple times. Never had a huge problem, but it was always more of a process to get my shit done.
For example, printing a document that's in my email. Kinko's had me rent a computer (a process in itself), in order to download it and print it. There were a lot of lines, and this took a long time. Mail Box etc by my place. I walked in, they pointed me at a computer, no renting, downloaded and printed. 5 mins tops. |
