Computer problem

Nerds

XP SP2
2 gigs ram
M2n32SLI-Deluxe
250 gig HDD IDE
AMD 4800 2.2 gig Dual core

Windows goes retardedly slow while booting up, the initial boot is fast, then the windows logo appears with the scrolling bar. 10 minutes later, I'm in windows.

Tried formatting, same thing.

What could it be?

and is there any word on DX10 coming out for XP? I really dont want to to get vista.

dx10 is vista only
i believe there is a hacked dx10 for xp though floating about

sounds like a shitty driver or some shitty setting, check your event log and see if your boot is waiting for something to time out

Quick and easy fix

1.backup everything onto external HD
2.re-Install windows (wiping PC clean)
3.fixed

if not fixed something needs to be replaced. Im thinking its the HDD, go with SATA2
(IF yer MOBO supports it)

its a fix it yourself that will take 1 1/2 - 2 hours about as much time as constantly fucking with hijackthis and constantly restarting in safemode.....

Phrenetic is not allowed to post anymore.

Marty, have you tried fucking around with msconfig and disabling nonessential stuff in Services and Startup?

start->run->msconfig
go to the services tab
check off "hide Microsoft Services" (or something like that)
click Disable All
go to the startup tab
click disable all
restart computer

Also, try booting into safe mode and see if you still have problems there.

best place to start is the msconfig. untick everything that is enabled to start that was a program you installed. Norton, MSoffice etc etc.

imo its a startup issue like people say or your HD is failing. but you would notice additional slowness in tasks in windows.

welp i came in here to suggest safe mode and msconfig but that's all recommended.

however, pretty sure msconfig only initiates stuff once the actual GUI has loaded, not while the scrollbar is going, that's just drivers and DLL shit getting loaded IIRC. boot log it.

Hopefully that works, there was a lot of stuff in there.

If it works better with the startup programs disabled you can google the item in msconfig and figure out what you want and what you can live without, then bring on the stuff you want and see if problems ensue.

Did you disable services too?
