well, i can't recommend anywhere to buy except a camera shop in Delta, which is where I went for mine as they were very helpful and informative.....though i do recommend this website if you want to compare models and read reviews and whatnot. Great resource.

if you find one you like, i would say check craigslist for the same one but cheaper.
i've had great success buying electronics off craigslist just be sure you know approximately what you want and the price it goes for retail. i've found some people try to mark up older electronics because they're pink or something equally stupid. they don't appreciate it if you send a link to the future shop website showing the exact $99 1 year old PINK camera brand new for $89 with a warranty in the exact same pink color too. |

all the pics i've posted of flowers and such lately have been done with an old busted ghetto 5 megapixel casio EX-Z50.
after seeing what that little thing is capable, i have been fully sold on casio cameras if you want a point and shoot. their pro version looks a little rough around the edges in some ways but has some crazy features that are really neat. my vote for a great camera that combines user friendly functions, quality and value in one is the casio exilim zoom EX-Z200RD. hell, it even has a YOUTUBE capture mode for easy uploads. i cant tell if you're for real or just defending your friend, but if given the choice in a point+shoot digital, why wouldn't you take the larger LCD? It displays your color correction, light correction, iso correction, your focus zone(s), your field of view when zooming, and all the realtime information about your picture and memory card that digital provides. What about when you're reviewing and deleting and showing all those pictures to your friends? Ever tried showing a crowd of people that hilarious video you just took with a screen the size of your thumb?
now that i 'think about it', i've owned the XTI and the SD750, and I use the LCD on the latter all the time. On the SLR it doesnt matter, but that's not what this thread was about, was it? |

i'll bet i can find a few decent dslr cameras on craigslist that fall well within the price range. i don't use my camera for partying. it doesn't sound like krusha is gonna be using his display screen for showing "the hilarious video" he just made to all his friends while he's traveling. sounds like he wants to get and keep some nice pictures of his trip. assuming he'll do what most people do and use his computer to edit his photos and only use the display screen to delete the obviously fucked up photos to make room on the memory card. so my guess is that in this case the size of the lcd display really doesnt matter one bit. so in his case the size of the screen really makes no fucking difference. |

in fact i'll go so far to say that my camera review is more relevant than your "but my camera has a bigger screen" argument because i make it clear that these little casio's can take a severe beating and continue peak performance.
im pretty sure that travel is hard on cameras and what good is a big lcd display if your camera is broken anyway? |

Let's pretend you didnt ignore the majority of the advantages I listed. Then let's pretend people throw their cameras out when they get back from vacation. Then let's pretend that SLR cameras don't have viewfinders. Because that's what the display is on a digital.
Oh wait, he did buy a digital and all those things are still relevant to anyone that use them, regardless of their camera knowledge or what they use them for. The display is an important part of the camera and can influence your buying decision as it's used in everyday use, which is how i presented it. Save the unrelated tangents please. |

ok, the viewfinder is not a selling point, imo.
i mean to say that if one of the first highlights listed is the size of the screen then your camera is not that great. this is the intro to the new casio pro. "The EXILIM Pro EX-F1 incorporates a new high speed CMOS sensor and high speed LSI processor. After building in 6.0 million effective pixels and a 12X optical zoom, the developers focused on achieving a burst shooting speed capability that was hitherto unheard of. Using the camera’s ultra-high speed burst shooting for still images or its high speed movie recording mode, users can capture a split second’s movement with greater detail than before, allowing them to catch each decisive moment, and even motion that the human eye cannot ordinarily perceive...." notice not one mention to viewfinder size.....but man it has some fine features. |
