cable providers?

is there such a thing as a cable provider that lets you pick what channels YOU want, not what channels you have to have first in order to get the channels that you want?

Ive been with shaw for years and I fucking hate them. I watch maybe 5 channels out of the 80+ channels I pay for. Im pissed and i want to hop sink, whos a better service provider with better packages or gives the customer more choices?????

What channels do you watch? your basic is up to 28, tier 1 is up to 34, tier 2 is up to 45 and tier 3 is up to 58.
you can lower your package by going that way.

In terms of digital cable, you can pick out specialty channels.

If you watch for example 2-28 then 50 to 54, then you can get basic and tier 3.

if you watch channel 42 and 54, you're pretty fucked.. you could go basic+t2+t3. but you might as well spend the extra $10 and get full cable.

I believe, if you go with smellus tv, you can pick and choose the channels. but waiting 3 minutes for a channel to change is retarded and you need their extreme speed (3mbit) to run it and it still sucks.

^yeah i watch basically discovery channel,tlc,hgtv,treehouse for the wee one and foodtv. I watch nothing between the channels of 2-28. so stupid. I was thinking Telus but have had bad experiences with thier home phone and internet service,based on what you said thats not an option either.

as for torrent files, dont i have to spend time finding shit and dl'ing it?then id need to get another HD to hook up to my tv downstairs cuz my PC is upstairs.I barely have time to dl music let alone tv shows:(

Well, if you dont mind being on a contract, having shit internet (you'll have to switch to telus or pay for shaw internet as well), then go for telus.

But, telus tv is so slow, bringing up a guide takes forever, changing channels takes 3 minutes.

Shaw gave us a demo of telus tv, i could go have a smoke before the channel changed.

That's true.. But it was all because of shaw offering phone.

Telus attempted to do cable, but with the lack of coax that telus uses, it was impossible.
I can see telus doing decent in tv running when fibre comes out.

No, but it just goes to show that the technology of streaming cable signal is a plausible service. If Telus could use that type of technology with increased bandwidth on the backbone (which really they should be doing anyways so that we're not stuck like the Americans are right now in 5 years).
