Iraq, 5 years on.
For all the "The Surge is working!" rhetoric being spewed forth by the American government, it'd be interesting to see why there's decreased violence in the city.
Well, here's a good explanation. This man looks at Baghdad of today, and it really seems eerily familiar to passages of 1984. Basically the militaristic presence has forced anybody and everybody into ghettos separated by massive walls. This isn't peace, it's a prison! Please watch these videos. |

sounds like something sean might say heh.
good post dave i always like seeing neutral (or attempted neutral ) takes on iraq. liked all of them right up untill interviewing the boy in the third one asking if the americans did it. its ludacris to ask a child anything about who did anything. if a mentor of any kind told a child that the boogieman killed his parents and then the boy heard all kinds of people talk shit about the boogie man, then if you asked if the boogieman killed them, he would say yes, and tell you hes afraid of the boogie man. children have no credibility. thats not to say americans didnt do his parents in, but i think it foolish to take the opinion of a small boy in something as serious as murder, especially when in regards to international affairs. |

Actually, I kinda felt that the questions he was asking the kids were kinda leading. But I think his point was almost vindicated at the end where he pointed out that regardless of who committed these atrocities, they all blame the Americans because life just wasn't like this before they showed up. Who else are they going to think to blame? It's the Sunni's and the Shia's? That Iran or Pakistan are sending people in to destroy them? No, that the Americans invaded them and have no clue how to govern here, so they really need to leave.
I wouldn't say this is very objective, in fact I'd say it's very biased. But It's good to sometimes hear what people are thinking on the other side. |

it is somewhat biased but its more objective than most sides we hear from there. as i said, ill take neautral in any form it comes, and as close as i can get it. its really tough to form an opinion on something just by hearing two sides. thats like trying to make perfect grey out of black and white. there are too many shades of grey. its best to start with perfect grey in the first place (or as close as you can get) and go from there.
shitty analogy but it works in my head.... anyone with an idea of colour values might understand it though.... |
