Helping each other out.
Heeeeey....so I live in Abbotsford and am always actively doing promoting (freelance). In the past its mostly been for Twisted Productions but now Im going to help out MSH Sessions to. Anyways I know not everyone lives in Vancouver and sometimes it can be a hassle to get tickets to events so I created a facebook group...check it out. If your interested in joining then do so, spread it around to others who would be interested too....the help would be appreciated.
thanks for your time if you take a look :) http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...4481764&ref=mf |

marketing 101: make a thread title relating to what you're doing.
i say this as both a marketer, and someone who used to be a twisted/swingkids ticket seller in abby. go in peace. edit: but lol you're not a "promoter". Last edited by wishbone; Sep 17, 08 at 09:51 AM. |

i think this is somewhat of a marketable skill. i have provided references for people who have done this for me before.
i also encourage them to "own" the show. seems far more impressive then saying they are working for me. besides if it werent for people like this girl, my flyers would just stay in the trunk of my car forever. |

^ isnt the definition of someone who hands out promotional material a promoter?
just because they dont have a financial stake in the company/event doesnt mean they dont want it to do well. not to mention, if she is getting paid to do a job, i would say she is doing it. not to mention, one of the companies she promotes for is a well documented company that has a legal operating license in vancouver and the reputation to back it up. if she was promoting red bull or rockstar, would this be any different? |

I think the getting paid factor versus two free comp tickets is a good dividing point.
and I don't mean anything bad by the latter. when i sold tickets for twisted, i just did it for a couple comp tickets. nothing wrong with that, but I'd hardly consider it a "promotions" job let alone something I'd put on my resume. |

when hiring someone to do outside promo, you have to be able to trust that they arent just throwing the flyers in the trash can but claiming that they actually handed them out. i think it shows the ability to work on her own. i work just a little over that for lady i work for with a disability. i still put it on my resume. |

if i list you as a reference, just make sure you mention my lightshows. |

It would be different if she came to me in a job interview working for Red Bull or Rockstar. A: She would have offically worked there. If a company is willing to do that then that says something right there. I doubt that she or twisted claim any of her pay on their taxes. B: It's regular work. The employer takes time training them in a regular work environment. C: The structure clubs/raves use to promote doesn't translate well to the real world. Basically a promoter finds as many people as they can, gives them a box of flyers, and tickets. Says sell these and you keep five dollars from each ticket. There is hardly any interviewing or skills required. It's done by mass. It's the exact same structure companies use when they have kids sell chocolates door to door. And the chinese kid down the street from me and his hockey team are not freelance promoters. |

You just give them a $40 ticket for a show to flyer. You throw how many shows a year? And I'm supposed to consider their "Freelance Promotions" as an actual job when it shows up on a resume? |

I believe the point she is making is that Twisted does up to 6 shows a month - if this girl does 4 hours for each show at $10/hr then that's $2880/year. |
