SPP Home sets the blueprint

the weakened american dollar will soon enough not be able to compete with other world currencies, and yes eventually they will brand the amero as their only hope out of this recession

say goodbye to sovereignty and get ready to become a 53rd state (after israel and mexico)

I still can't figure what makes Amero alarmists think that Canadians will be lining up in droves to tie our currency to the anchor that is the American dollar.

Imagine if any of the party leaders, in a news conference today, threw out the idea of the Amero as part of their campaign platform.

They'd be looking up at the Green party in no time.

^Ya, now that our dollar is strong. Back when it was ~.60s I bet people wouldn't have thought it was that bad of an idea. If the tide turns again, Canadian's would be more receptive to it.

it won't be canadians lining up that get to make the decision

it will be the "we need to work together" nafta rhetoric we've heard from all our party leaders before, and anyone selected to be conservative or liberal leader

what is it 80% of our exports that our tied to the states, if they go down we go down too

i've just sold a good chunk of employee shares and put them into gold because many of my employers key investors are in new york, stocks are falling in every sector and this is just as much our problem too

they'll do the bailout, inflate the american dollar and just sit back and watch as the inevitable happens

im not saying its going to happen over night, but im a cynic and can smell the shit before it hits the fan

Uh, that's not how America came out of the great depression...

^ I didn't say that's how they came out of the great depression, I'm saying that's what happened with people's spending habits. Their was still less money, it just shifted from larger purchases to smaller.

I said 'eventually the economy impoves'.. Kinda vague, I didn't mean that was the sole reason(or even main...) why it improved, just that it did.

financial darwinism i think

companies with the smallest margins will be put out
which means employees get fired
the more resourceful people come up with some ingenious ideas to stay above water
the less resourceful go broke and die or go on EI
??
profit!

the economy is a sham anyways, all the lending and credit just helped people avoid the reality of living beyond their means, now it catches up with us and hedonists call it a recession

Nope, not gonna happen.

If it's just US/Canada we won't go for it. If US is the major controller Mexico won't have any of it. I see balkanization of North America before that happens. It's all a matter of whether it starts with racism (in which case America will be the first to collapse) or Quebec secessionists (in which case we'll go first).

I still think a best-case outcome for North America is to see US divided into East coast, West Coast, and bible belt.

Alberta should separate. Take Saskatchewan... and I suppose BC, but only for the ports.

If Quebec goes first we'll be next. trust.

There's enough animosity going on between BC and Toronto, has been for years. If they can't keep Quebec in the spirit of national unity then we'll be looking the same way. We'll want some heavy natural resource action too aside from water and lumber, so we'll try our darnedest to bring Alberta with us.

Firstly it won't be just US and Canada it's all three.

Secondly the deals to implement the dollar have already been agreed to by special interests behind closed doors, it literally is a matter of time. It's Nafta on steriods.

I don't know why people are arguing facts here, I'm not making shit up, it's not a conspiracy theory, it's a conspiracy reality.

The problem is that politics will not dictate this, trade will. As long as corporations and banks keep syndicating and dissolving borders, this is the most likely outcome.

Their's been animosity between Alberta-Ottawa since Trudeau. Ralph Klein openly talked about separation several times, their was even an Alberta Separatist party(albeit, that didn't garnish many votes)

Alberta could afford to run itself, and would be better off doing so.

Oh the ground work has definitely been laid. I agree it's not a conspiracy theory, it's a strong possibility.

See, this is my point. It's not going to be all three, it's going to be all eight.

I don't think there will be a North American Union with the countries the way they are at the moment. People are paranoid enough about NAFTA that I don't see it expanding any time soon without a breakup of the current nations.

Too much distrust of the US. The only way they'd be able to pull it off is through outright annexation, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

You can slip a hell of a lot past the general public, but you can't completely change the nature of the dollars in their wallets and purses without a lot of questions being asked.

To me it seems like the Amero theorists (look, I even left out the "conspiracy" buzzword) have done a lot of research into a lot of shady nooks and crannies, but haven't taken the time to step back and see the forest for the trees.

To paraphrase a Bush they managed to oust after 4 years instead of 8:

Read my lips: Canadians HATE this idea. It will not stand.

*edit.. in fact, let's see exactly what people think of the idea:

from ~90 to 02/03 we benefited from construction fueled by foreign investment.

from 02/03 to present we benefited from soaring commodity prices lead by natural gas.

what's next?

If the NDP are elected, we will benefit from foreign appreciation of Jack Layton's mustache.

If all we can offer is Stephen Harper's powder blue sweater, we are all in deep trouble.

Well in the Aviation World, the big players are freezing from hiring.

The smaller companies are doing well as their size permits them to flex and adapt to the markets much easier.

My job is secure as I just got a new one in the knick of time as my position in Iqaluit is being ended and remoted out of Calgary. So back to Toronto with me.
