i had a theory that perhaps with all the fucked up GMO's we're consuming that perhaps some kind biochemical mechanism is broken in certain people, and their bodies lose a sense of equilibrium?
I've been at my natural weight for about 10 years now, never going past 5 pounds in either direction. |

Hmmm, doubtful. I think our "sedentary lifestyle" has been about the same for well over the past 50 years, and yet there are new foods cropping up all the time that find ways of packing in more and more calories into every bite. Combine that with ever increasing portion sizes and a "more bang for your buck" mentality, and you have a society that is bound to become over weight.

not really.. you can always read up on it...even though the surgery itself is reducing the size of the stomach there is always a chance that the stomach can stretch back again. you have to still be careful what you eat and its all about portion control. its very easy to go back to the way you once were if you are not careful. the surgey is just a jump start in getting skinny but you still have lots of work to do once its done.

Electrical lighting.
We're photosensitive organisms, just like any others. Light exposure in excess of 12 hours daily, tells the human endocrine system that it is late summer, when grains and fruits ripen, and it is time to build up winter fat reserves. A graph of the spread of electrical lighting in North America precisely matches the rise in sugar and base carbohydrate consumption. Incidentally, the summer phase also is marked by an increase in overall libido and aggression, we may be able to copulate and reproduce year round, but children born in late spring had the highest chance of surviving their first year. Basically we're a society of horny, pissed off, sugar junkies, on average. |

this would not explain why there's higher levels of obesity in the USA as opposed to other developed countries where artificial light is just as prevalent. Nor would it explain the exponential rise in obesity over the past 20 years. based on what i've read on the subject, i doubt this is a significant factor in the rise of obesity |
