acting professional: outward emotion and smiling too much makes you look dumb?

Or does this vary culture to culture? I always get called out as the 'quiet guy' or someone who broods a lot when that's actually not the case at all. What is preferable: Chandler Bing-esque dude who's bouncing off the walls giving shooter McGavin's, or someone who is reserved, like Marco Pierre White.? |
