The Darien Gap is the no mans land which connects Panama with Columbia, north America to central America.

Its regarded as one of the most dangerous and unforgiving regions in the world. its pretty much lawless and filled with para-military narco's, drug runners, rebels, revolutionaries and outlaws and it forces a break in the pan-american Hwy.

Governments and Authorities don't go there. It has gained mythic status amongst adventure's to cross the Darien gap overland. It's more then possible and there have been books written about the journey you just have to be really careful. One of the more famous books was about a fellow who did it by motorcycle a few years ago

It annoyed the hell out of me that I was forced to purchase a flight from panama to columbia because of the 'gap warnings. I have been through some extremely dangerous areas before and I know that I'm capable of doing it one day.

A local adventurer and professor at UBC crossed it. His name is Wade Davis. A man I greatly admire.
