css problems - at least one of you nerds must be able to help

k so I'm pretty new at this so bear with me....

I'm making a website for my friend. Looks fine on my PC, but on a Mac, the colours and fonts are screwed up.

For example: the colour of the container. I have it written as: {background:black; border:5px solid palevioletred;}

Problem is, the black comes out medium gray on a Mac

Another problem is the font of the tabs. I wrote it like this:
{color:palevioletred !important; font-size: 12px !important; font-family: vivaldi !important; font-weight: Bold !important;}

Looks fine on my PC, but the font is just plain arial on a Mac.

why??????

What you would do is specify a few fonts in order of preference, and then have the generi-fallback "cursive" listed as a last resort.
