friend who has worked out for almost a year can only do 6 pushups non-stop v.WTF

so i have a friend who's a pretty big dude. very broad and huge back and legs, well over 220 lbs and is your typical gym rat.

anyway, he went to a crossfit assessment with another mutual friend and i heard he puked 4 times, and could only manage six pushups. lol

i'm totally sedentary, don't work out at all, and i just tested myself and i did 70 pushups non stop. i think i could've done 80 but i was getting light headed. and that was COLD.

i always had a theory that big muscled out gym ppl were doing something unnatural since i could outwrestle most the weightroom ppl back in highschool, but HOLY SHIT.

your thoughts?

define workout? just because someone lifts weights, doesn't mean they can do pushups? I agree that 6 sounds ridiculous tho, even my mom could do more than that

Sounds like buddy has been toning specific muscles.

Probably the worst kind of gym rat - the meathead. probably douses himself in creatine on a regular basis.

This is why I like rock climbing - it works out practical muscles and actually keeps your weight ratio in check - just because you're built doesn't mean you're healthy.

i never asked him the specifics, but he has pretty big arms and legs. no tone btw, but they are bulky.

I think his problem was trying to gain mass, like 7 eggs a day and sleeping lots. i'm still blown away by how weak he is. i think im gonna grapple him and slap a slick arm bar on him next time i see him

Stamina and lifting weights are two different things. That guy may have not had any problem pushing him self up, but doing more than 6 in a row is testing is stamina, not his muscle power. The guy obviously skips the cardio room every time he goes to the gym.

Its like if you had a contest to see who could a hold a feather out in front of them the longest. A heavy weight lifter wouldn't be able to do it for more than a couple of second unlike a skinny long distance runner who may be able to hold it out in front of them for an hour.


BTW, I wouldn't necessarily call gymnasts at that level "healthy" most intensive trained female gymnasts often dont get their monthly cycle as they have minimal body fat.

stamina ftw. i can admit that i feel out-of-shape to the point of looking a rhombus, but at the same time i can do a crazy amount of pushups.

sounds like this guys should be hitting a punching bag and maybe some intense jogging.

maybe he's an impostor. you can get those tshirts at the novelty shops with ripped abs/pec silk screened on the front. if i wanted to trick people into thinking i was tough i'd get one, but for now im cool with people not wanting to wrestle me wherever i go.

nothing unreal about it, i see women everyday that look great. it's just all the fat lazy slobs that don't feel it's necessary. ;)
