Cypress Closed till Mar 9
My favorite local hill is closing till March 9th! I'm kind of worried that there won't be enough snow this year for the olympics!
I hear they're also closing the alpine tracks in whistler so they can transport snow from the cross country areas to where it's needed for events. Latest News At Cypress Mountain | Cypress Mountain “To preserve and protect the integrity of the Snowboarding and Freestyle Skiing courses at Cypress Mountain for the 2010 Winter Games, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games (VANOC) and Cypress Mountain have agreed this morning to close the Alpine Ski Area to the public." Oh, yeah.
They're in full-on panic-mode! I also heard today that they've got the half pipe tarped to stop it from being washed away. Calling the snow-phone, the bowl was closed mon and tues due to high winds and heavy rains. GO PINEAPPLE EXPRESS!!! I said it a couple of years ago when the boneheads were driving around w/ those "I Support the Bid" bumperstickers: They'll be trucking in snow. I turned down work this Sat because I was going to head up to Whistler, but, checking the snow-phone and forecasts, they aren't getting much, and besides mild temperatures, the freezing level has and will be hovering between 1000-1800m. Hopefully we'll get a great spring dump after I get back to town, post-Olympshits. I'd like to use up the rest of my days on my edge card withOUT the paranoid police state. and wishing that the highest profile event ever held in your city flops and negatively effects the perception of our home for the whole world? what a boneheaaded way to think. |

^Listen, PAL!
All I did was make an observation of what is going on with the weather. _I_ am not controlling it! And, just where did I say I wanted this "event" to be a disaster? Huh?! I make no secret about my opinion that I find it to be a frivolous use of public funds. Not only that, but this li'l party you're cheering for is, in fact, putting many of my colleagues OUT of work, because no producers are bringing shows to town due to massive restrictions of movement and location access. And, btw, why are _you_ taking it all so personally as to how the world views Vancouver, when, clearly, there's squat anyone can do about Ma Nature? I thought Expo 86 already did a pretty bang-up job in boosting exposure, immigration, investment, development and growth. If El Nino/Pineapple Express decides to muck things up, how can you possibly feel responsible?! Like the Germans are going to _BLAME_ this city for a balmy winter?... As I've said, elsewhere, by all means! Go stand in that queue! Mingle in that crowd! Buy those souvenirs! I'll be elsewhere till it blows over. Frosty (not concerned) |

gnosis: massive restrictions in movement and location access...
dude. i know. i work by olympic village and it's just a gong show. it's such a damn pain driving home from work too since they started closing down the major arteries, like sections of georgia st, so it gets clogged as people are try to sneak by on the side streets. check this out.. 2010 Host City - Venue Area Road Closures ... pretty brutal if you live downtown, or have to cross through it on the regular. |

you know what's disturbing? I'm seeing flowers blooming everywhere - in the middle of fucking january...
can't wait to find out how much more cost overruns are going to come in due ot having to truck in a bunch of extra snow. oh wait, vanoc doesn't say shit about how much money we're going over... |

With a drop in temperature, usually comes a high pressure ridge/area.
That usually means drier weather. And, w/ looking @ that forecast, there seems to be a lot of +C precipitation leading up to the drop. So, it may get colder, but, also clear and sunny. Mind you, it would give the poor sods a chance to at least make _some_ snow. Frosty (dispassionately observing the drama) |

I was surprised to see the lack of snow on the mountains when I got off the plane from Asia this weekend. I only got to use 1 day of my Mt. Baker pass so I'm hoping for a nice dump of snow soon.
And screw Cypress as the passes this year were a ripoff and a total money grab. |
