CBC News - British Columbia - Abbotsford police bust bush parties with Facebook
Police in Abbotsford, B.C. are using Facebook and other social networking website to crack down on youths drinking at bush parties.
Over the weekend, the Abbotsford Police Department shut down two outdoor alcohol-fueled gatherings, one by the Fraser River, the other on Sumas Mountain, after they were posted on Facebook, according to Const. Ian MacDonald.
"Over the weekend we did a little bit of a blitz campaign in those remote areas and for good or bad seized a fair amount of liquor and wrote a few tickets," said MacDonald.
Partying in the great outdoors might seem like a rite of passage for teenagers, but MacDonald says there are real problems associated with the parties.
"Young folks by and large have to get there in some way. The transportation is usually motor vehicle. There is a potential danger not only for underage drinking, but also drinking and driving," said MacDonald.
MacDonald said another problem is what he describes as an "uncomfortable" age mix at some of the gatherings, with people in their 30's getting drunk with teenagers.
