Once a vibrant community....
Once an active and vibrant community of people to talk and air out their dirty laundry, is now in its final paces... about to die.
A place where Karma, used to upset the n00bs into making raging threads. Where friends were made, and "virtual" enemies were created. Where many young DJ's first made their scratch into the scene After all the drama and bullshit one thing united us all, it was the fact that we all parties our faces off, and loved doing it. What fnk meant to me? Helped me develop myself as a new DJ entering into the scene, it helped me meet and greet and network with many names in the local community. I have made a lot of friends through fnk, a lot of them still very near and dear to me right now. Meeting you people irl opened me up, where I was once closed off and shy. I guess facebook took over most of it. oh well... just some of my nostalgia... |

I kinda miss all the torrents of hate, though. Made for cheap entertainment. |

But I just find people romanticizing what this was kinda funny. "Vibrant" wouldn't be the operative word I think... that was more LX. Al threw parties, fostered meet-ups and actively contributed to the scene on a consistent basis. Here we just bitched about how parties have gone downhill and acted like stupid twits while we made fun of other stupid twits. "Active" is a little more accurate. Definitely a fun place to do all that. And then there was XTCity, buncha candyravers who then had their ecstasy honeymoon burnouts and so it died, paving the way for ED, which then died out and splintered into Pod6 and the Geej, both of which are down for the count. Gotta hand it to Myles, at least this place is still standing. Desolate as it were but I guess less traffic means less need to administrate? Still, fun to check in every once in a while. Quick! Someone do something stupid! |

Yes... it is better to describe it as a once "active" community as opposed to a "vibrant" one.
This forum's activity died off in 2008, and that was also when ticket prices for raves and various other events skyrocketed and many people (including myself) stopped being able to attend events (I was mainly here to keep up with events and the music). Then, as someone pointed out earlier - the rise of social networking websites have also contributed to diverting traffic from FNK to themselves (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc.), and this website lost almost all of its traffic. And yes, there was a lot of stupidity, arguing, bickering, name calling, prejudice, and elitist-like behaviors which scared many new members away... therefore preventing new people from becoming regulars. Oh well... I guess this is what happens when a collective of people cannot get along. I enjoyed talking on here and sharing thoughts with you guys, but all the arguing and ignorance turned me off and made me move on. I miss all of the intellectual discussions about life however, and actively discussing the music scene - FNK was really good for that. Last edited by FireWire; Jan 16, 11 at 12:16 AM. |

I do miss a lot of the people I met on LX,XTCity, ED, and here. But mostly left the crews as they all grew up, or continued doing drugs. What can be said for nostalgia? I could think good things and tear up, or I could remember the people I would punch in the face to this day for what was said. Looking upon my page here, my last log in was sept 2009!! My web identity is long gone, replaced by status updates and pokes. I sure do miss talk-sic tuesdays at the spanish. Not sure if I should think of those days as the best of my life...but going on 30 makes it seem so. I have so much love for my memories, you all helped make them so I owe you. Take care of yourselves, we're all missed.

I left Vancouver in 1998 but this board and others helped me feel like I still knew about what was going on party-wise back home. It was interesting watching Vancouver's rave scene get bigger and bigger and then finally implode on itself.
I would absolutely kill to have a browse through LoungeX. If any of you guys know Al you should encourage him to put up a read-only copy of the old board. I would love to have a dive into the old LoungeX reviews section and relive those late 90's moments of bliss, fear and amazement. |

Random question, why is everyone talking like F'n'K is totally dead? This is the first time I've been on in years and to me it seems very much alive, much smaller than it used to be but that's how it started.. Is this website shutting down or something?
