Sometimes progress isn't desirable but can it be stopped? With or without the games people are going to move here and property values will go up. With or without the games Whistler will continue to grow (it is already the most popular resort in North America) and more infrastructure will be needed. BC is shifting away from a resource based economy and we need to make efforts to continue boosting our tourism and high tech industries. The Olympics are a very small step in all of this and will actually have a very small effect overall. I'm all for protecting as much of the forests as possible but if it comes down to looking at them and enjoying there beauty or clear cutting them I'll take the first option. We all need jobs to survive and I see the spin offs for Vancouver being positive as far as the Olympics are concerned. So unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you see it progress can not be stopped in this case.

I think the government should take more responsibility for their health care, and educating our children better.

Calgary has been paying for their Olympics since '67... when they thought they would make a hefty profit :soak:

Things that our government would do to put ourselves on the map. *shakes head*

I say take care of our community first...

First I'll just say that I do fully support public health care and education. On the other side of the coin though shouldn't people be responsible to a certain extent for there own health care and education? Should we really feel that bad if some one chooses to not exercise, eats an unhealthy diet and has a heart attack as a result of that? What about starting a saving plan for your childs education? I think that people spend lot of energy whining about these things and do little to actually make them happen.

If people just got out there and exercised I bet our healthcare would cost half what it does. Don't believe me? http://www.ccs.ca/download/HR_statementfinaljun2002.pdf

I believe that education is actually much more important to a healthy society than healthcare is.
