Omg! I just wuz watching the highlights from some speech Gordon Campbell gave 2day and appearently we're gonna have a new tax on gas. 3.5 cents a litre!!! Like prices aren't high enough already!! :finger: I think it comes in2 effect in March. The $'s supposed 2 go towards fixing up the Sea 2 Sky Highway which is well needed but still!!! This is not cool, not cool at all! :(

YA tht suks . They say its only for towards the highway....but it'll be there forever....Taxes never go away. Ohwell....luckily i got a 4 banger car thats not too bad on gas and not a v8:)

Wouldn't need this add'l tax if some of the existing federal/provincial/municipal gas taxes would go towards transportation infrastructure upgrades and maintanence, as they should be in the first place, instead of being diverted to general revenues.

Although I understand the reasoning for the new tax it really does suck. I only put the red pump at Chevron (94 octane) in my car which is already expensive... IE: right now it's like $0.93/litre. With that new tax, it'll be around 0.965 and that is IF gas prices stay the same.

I agree that extra taxes on gas really blows - but i also agree with the idea that we who use the roads should pay for their upkeep. I mean if the tax hike for the highway went on to senior's medicine or something, it just wouldn't make sense. I am glad that this hike was announced post skytrain extension completion ... at least it looks like the gov't is givng us alternatives.

its an old racer trick
use 87/89 octane pump gas and put in some moth balls
your exhaust will smell kinda weird but yeah

you don't need the higher octane gas in you're car unless you've uped the timing or increased the compresion. The extra 3 octane is not doing anything for your, higher octane gas is only need in cars with higher compresion or advanced timing because the higher octane gas has less energy and won't detonate as easily as lower octane gas. So unless you like wasting money 91 octane will be good enough for your prelude.

whats this 3 point 5 bullshit the bloody machines are going to round up anyway, its only a penny a person a fill up. but how many ppl fill up a day? thats alotta pennies a year.
and i think its about time to get rid of pennies anyway. who still uses them?
oh and i read in the paper today that canadian gas prices on AVERAGE will hit 1$ by the summer if there is a war, and here on the wet coast our gas is already the most expensive in the country... that estimate doesnt include our new tax...

^^^It's 3.5 cents per litre...so if you get 20 litres, for example, it'll add 70 cents...no rounding required...
