Uk Hardhouse/Hardtrance is my personal fav. I've been listening to it way before I started to rave. Breaks are cool and all, I just dont feel the vibe when I'm in the break room.... I will never abandon my Hardtrance for breaks!!!!

Personally...I've always LOVED trance even before I got into the "rave" scene hearing tunes like ATB and top 40 like Robert Miles "Children"...It's just so melodic and uplifting...It puts a smile on me when I'm feeling gloomy...Makes me feel happy when I'm down...

Always haved and always will LOVE trance... :kimmie:

And about this unspoken rule... its called going to your first party all ripped on E, listening to some trance and thinking its the best thing in the world. then after a while, u stop going so hard, realize you can't stand the music without the drugs, and find a genre easier to listen to, ie breaks.
But thats just one scenario.

.....

but I can't stand most breaks even with drugs.

You're not "obliged" to do anything. Being the more "mainstreaM' electronic music offered at raves, that along with hard house, progressive etc is usually what people first. I never TRULY got into all those types of music (except for funky disco house and speed garage which still took me a while to discover) so after partying for a few months and FINALLy being introduced to d&b, jungle, breaks etc I had found what I truly love. Not music that I kind of liked, mostly because I LOVED the atmosphere. Most people just take time to discover breaks etc. then realise that they like it more, from what I've seen over and over again.

This whole thread is totally interesting, and im a trance lover at heart... but its almost as diverse as comparing who likes and doesnt like alternative music, or acoustic music, or even something completely on other sides of the spectrum such as comparing country with hip-hop... i know its totally different, but comparing trance and other kinds of techno music is just that, totally different, and ppl are diverse, and along with that comes different tastes of music... which is cool, and i think thats what makes the "rave scene" so cool, the diversity, but also the unity of everyone dancing together to one DJ and loving the music in general.. hence, also a reason why they have 2-3 rooms at most raves... to tell u the truth, techno like Prodigy got me hooked and music like Robert Miles, kept me searching for more, and now Trance keeps me going!

i didn't bother reading what anyone else wrote, but let me give you the straight and narrow - they shun it because it sucks. Musically it is as basic as it gets and is really boring since basically all trance follows the exact same cookie cutter process. "doodely doodely doo"

I am aware people will say 'Well, you can say that any type of music all sounds the same unless you listen to it a lot' - and this is true, EXCEPT FOR TRANCE - it really is that monotonous and lame.

and for the record I didn't even like trance when I started going to parties.

but it ain't house music that makes me wanna dance"

I think DnB and Jungle take the ring when it comes to being monotonous in terms of it's basic beat.

How do you figure? Trance (as well as house, but house at least tends to use different kick drums) is in 2/2 - take it from a drummer, this is THE most basic beat (clapping one's hands aside).

I do agree that lots of DnB and Jungle (even breaks) can be monotonous, but this tends to be shitty DnB and Jungle. With Trance, somewhere around 2% of it has musical knowledge inserted (i.e. dynamic tempos, rising and falling moods - this is supposed to be the point of trance isn't it?). A good example of someone who actually has his wits about him is Robert Myles, bit more on the clubby side - but with him it doesn't seem like your listening to trance, your listening to his music - which is also the point. Maybe I don't listen to enough trance to find the good stuff (due to complete lack of interest), but either way you still have the vast majority of trance djs hiding their lack of any skill on the decks with the relative ease of spinning the genre. Probably why it all sounds the same.

I was making a slight generalization there with my last post as I thought you were with your remark about trance.

I like you have probably not listened to enough DnB or Jungle to tell the difference between good and bad, but I have listened to enough trance to say there is good and bad stuff out there.

To each their own but I wouldn't go around berating other genres until I had a better grasp of it.
