4am Close for bars this summer!

I saw on the news 2day that after the Labour Day weekend, the skytrain would be open 24 hours on weekends. Hopefully it's true! :D

Oh...man does that say trouble...it'll be wicked if I am ever out for drinks between school & werk. But I do agree they will have to put the busses to 24 hr. again. I know they have been thinking about it for a while...so we'll see. But this *could* be a messy idea!

I thought it was bus service which would be all night on weekends?? Not skytrain...

But if they do this, it takes translink 3 months to have these changes put into place (don't know why?) so they wouldn't happen until september anyways..

uhh, no, the 10 ubc bus, the fraser, the victoria, and the granville buses all used to be PACKED until about an hour and a half after the clubs closed downtown, every night of the week. translink made the decision to can late night bus service based on an AVERAGE low ridership rate that included all late night buses, including all late night suburban service alongside downtown service. they never looked at ridership on specific routes, which was the big problem with the decision to scrap late night buses. as someone who has been involved in the club scene for a long time i can tell you that vancouver's clubscene has gone way downhill since the bus strike, and then the cancellation of late night buses. it straight up sucks now, (except for small groups of dedicated people keeping the eclectic alive yo!)

its gonna cause more trouble downtown, more drunken fools driving (cause they will think they are ok to drive), more of everything the city doesn't need.

sure it has its ups, but i see way more downs with it.

i think this is kind of a neat idea.. although i sort of got to liking being kicked out of the club at 2AM because it meant you got to move onto a new venue.. and I really began to like those sketchy little hell-hole afterhours. no doubt they will disappear with this new closing time. o'well. end of an era.

about superclubs, they don't have to have multiple rooms to be considered "superclubs".. they just have to be grandoise. like at least 10 or 15,000 watts of sound, lots of intelligent lighting, large capacity, and a massive vibe. a lot of club tourists would consider the commodore a super club if it had less of a concert venue feel and better lighting. maybe a nice big fat mirrorball. and a cryo-cannon. and spark jets. yeah.. anyway.
