4am Close for bars this summer!
http://www.canada.com/vancouver/stor...7-4165BC39E375
Sounds great to me but I think they have to consider running buses all night as well. |

It is a bad idea right now as there is no transportation infrastructure to support the people that stay out until 4am.
All we need now is hundereds of drunk people staggering around downtown trying to figure out how to get home and then decide they wish to drive drunk next time since the busses aren't running and they run out of cash to take a cab. |

i definetly agree with the issue on the transit
but DAAYYYAAAAAM 4am is freakin awesome! i can already see granville packed with drunk happy people with all the pizza burger, sushi... all those food joints open all night, clubs pumpin up the tunes, and then vancouver will for once have a real nightlife... werrrrrrd! and think about how its gonna affect the dj scenes!! special nights wont have just one headliner... but 2 headliners! one opening at 12-2, then fininishing off 2-4! awesome! aw shiet i'm loving it... absolutly loving it |

i think transit is a moot point..it already shuts down at 1:15 which is an hour ebfore clubs close so what affect would extending the hours have? its not like there will be a huge increase in drunk driving, because its not like theres a huge amount of people taking transit now anyway.
besides if people can afford to buy booze then can afford to buy a taxi ride home |

^^^ Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.
No increase in drunk driving? Are you nuts? Two extra hours to drink is more than enough to make someone who normally is boarderline at 2am go over the limit. But then again all those drunk people driving would be out killing each other hopefully so maybe this is a warped version of Darwinism. |

Totally agreed on the transit issue, but that's already a problem. Those are 2 separate (although obviously inexorably linked) issues, and i don't think the transit situation, however stupid, should hold back the approval of the club hours extrension.
I can't see a big problem with it, clubs don't have to stay open that late if they don't want to. Of course there's the potential for new policing problems due to clubs & bars shutting at different times... but it could also reduce some problems, like if the club patrons aren't leaving all at the same time, it stands to reason that there'd be less potential for conflicts, and the problems would presumably be more spread out (over time) and therefore easier to manage. no matter how late the clubs are open though, the city needs to extend bus service to accomodate that. Obviously full transit service all night isn't feasible, but even just one late night bus back to each suburb would be a vast improvement. |

de criminalization of weed doesn't mean weed is legal - it just means fines instead of jail time if you are caught with it so that police time and effort can be put elsewhere
i am stoked about the later closing time - I think that transit at 2 a.m is awful - so 4 a.m will be as bad and worse But Winston the people who are baorderline at 2 - may be sober by 4, or dead drunk..but boarderline or no they likely shouldn't be driving The whole idea of keeping liquor establishments open later is about boosting the downtown economy - we are a 'no fun' city and that means a lot of the downtown core dies early. This is only a 3 month testing period - so hopefully this all works out - I mean they've been yapping about it for years |

Finally Vancouver is up to par to world-wide clubs in terms of hours of operations. Like everyone else said, buses needed to be run later. It will take most clubbers some time to adapt to 4am, I'm guessing 6-8 months.
Vancouver is getting a nice looking after hours club called Seretonin. It opens early summer and should be interesting. Actually there are a few clubs that recently open/opening soon that should spice up the club scene (Posh looking clubs that bring the movie stars). I've heard Caprice is pretty banging and Skybar should be pretty nice 2. The one thing that Vancouver lacks is a super-club. A club that has multiple stages. I'm not talking about a backroom, but I mean an actual stage. T.O. has the Guvernment and G-Spot. Hopefully Vancouver will get one soon. I luv hip-hop, but it does get boring. Problem is hip-hop brings the crowds. |

In my opinion, this is a very exciting time for the Vancouver night life scene!!! The point is, it's a step in the right direction to bring our scene up to par with that of other cities across Canada and internationally.
Keep in mind, this is a "trial period" and therefore a learning experience for the city. It is important that we provide this feedback in a constructive way to the city so that it is not scene as whining but more so something that will work with some further changes to the existing systems in place. Cheers. |

i stand by my opinions on the transit issuse, even if buses ran all night no one would take them, because there aren't many people who take them now. since when can one go out for $10? even a movie costs 13 bucks, $10 won't even pay for cover in alot of places. i mean look, the cover at even small places like tribeca is five bones. pluus a single beer is an additional four bucks. thats nine dollars already! anyone who is going out and only intends to spend 10 bones on a weeknight won't be able to afford to get drunk, and probably dosn't own a car either, so really, do we even have to worry about people like that?...
i don't think drunk driving would be a huge issuse because even ravers who are possibly the most irresponsible people on earth, manage to arrange designated drivers or cab rides home. |
