I say raise the driving age from 16 to 25!! Hahahaha. I really don't think they could impose the changes on you if you already have your L/N. I'd assume it would only affect people who are just getting their lisence for the first time. (But I don't know for sure) The reason they are trying to get harsh with all the rules for new drivers is stats people, an example is right in that article: Car accidents are the leading cause of death for young people in B.C. between the ages of 13 and 21 -- responsible for roughly 35 per cent of all deaths in that age group. How can you argue that? We're talking about inconviences versus people's fucking lives! |

And I agree, some aspects will make accidents go down, such as the passenger limit! But increasing the amount of time you have your L and N for.. I don't see how that will make people not speed, or be better drivers. If anything, people should be tested on their driving more regularly, not just teenagers. And the rules like the passenger limit, and the legal driving age they could impose on EVERYONE, even if you already have your license. That's not very hard to put into place.. but for those who do have their license, I don't think they'll make the time you have to have it for extended. That would just start on people getting their license after all the new rules are set. |

But the idea behind extending the L and N periods is that while having a Class 7 or 8 drivers license (I think those are the correct ones), one's license can be suspended much more easily than with a full Class 5. You only need 5 points as a new driver to have your license suspended. One speeding ticket is 3 points. So basically the government figures that the extra time will help keep tickets down, and it would make sense that as teenage tickets decrease, so would teenage accidents. I'd probably be very heated if I didn't already have my Class 5 though; I know where you're coming from. These kind of laws make you wonder about the states that have the driving age set to 15. Hell, I think there is even one that allows kids to start at 14 and a half. |

^^ isn't the age 14 in alberta?? well, it was a while ago, might've changed now.
14 is too young (imo). but why not put some of the responsibility on the parents? kids can't go and get their license without them, so they should play a part. i dunno, i think what they're trying to accomplish is a good thing. it really is. we don't need more people dieing, but at the same time i think there could be better ways to go around it. this is the cheapest way though, and in the end, that's what seems to matter to the government.. money! like with youngdrivers, what if it was more government funded and not $800?! with that price, it stopped alot of people i know from taking it. come on, it USED to be free (back in the day). i remember discussion of putting it back into the school system a few years ago, but nothing ever happened. just so frustrating.. (oh ya, and an L is class 7L, N is class 7, full license is class 5 =]) |

Yea cuz I still need to get my L,, I have been lacking for the past year. anyways.. all my friends are saying that the new changes are in effect now and that you can get your L till your 18...
hmmm I dunno... I dont think that them raising the age or having you L/N for a certain time period is worth it.... People always blame the parents for their childrens actions.... when its not the parents.. its just the kids.. their the ones that choose to speed.... and thats how accidents happen.. not everyone speeds... it just so happenes that the ones who think their hot shyt are the ones that are getting into the accident... |

^^I still don't agree with the new passenger thing if this goes through. I could c maybe 4 the 1st few months of having your N 2 have these restrictions since you're not used 2 the road but, they should be lifted after you've had your N 4 awhile. I've had my N 4 almost a year now and, I can admit when I 1st started driving it wuz alittle distracting but now, I'm fine. 2 make new rules saying u have 2 have your N 4 2 years and have a restriction of passengers, I just don't think it's fair.

man when i first recieved my N i was such a horrible driver. i think these changes are good, itll give the little kidddies a chance to pick up some skills before they pack their shitty little car full of their friends and get in a accident when their street racing to mcdicks for lunch.
man highschool kids are so dumb they shouldn't even let those mufuckas cross the street without parental supervision. |
