Little Girl Beauty Pageants
OMG! There's a show on them right now and it is the sickest thing EVER! They're so young and they look like they're 27. Why would you bleach a 5 year olds hair? I don't know what to do w/ this. Americans are sick. Why would you do that to your little person? When I was 7 I was playing in mud.
It's so wrong and creepy! |

I SAW THAT TOO!
the mother (who worked as a waitress I think) spent over $70 000 on her daughter to get her through those beauty paegents and drove 700 miles to someone's house just to get her daughter's makeup done! and for what??? a $2500 prize?? geez.. that little girl looked so much better without her big hair, makeup and frilly dress!! --Joanne :P |

living doll was totally correct... but its just sooo fake. anyone would look cute in that much make up. the swan girl was sooo cute... talking, dancing doll.. awww!
i remember when i was young my mom wanted to put me in those asian beauty pagents and i would totally rebel towards them. she had it all set out too.. my talent would be some jazz/ballet/lyrical dance and her friend would do my make up etc. tom boy me totally rebelled. thank god. |

^^^exactly what my mom said. i dont get it....approx they spent $70,000 and compete for max $2500.... yes i know its the experience, but that amount of money doesn't cut it. if its 2500 with an extra zero...which means $25,000..i would kinda understand (college funds...? i duno) ..but the max swan made was $2500 cash, a plastic trophy, damaged skin and hair and most importantly a childhood life..... not worth it.

That show's been on TV a million times.
I don't think that children's beauty pagents are any different than they way some parents force their children into playing sports. Same shit, different (but equally smelly) pile. And wtf's up with your "Americans are sick" comment? Like this shit doesn't happen here... *rolls eyes* |

there are a lot of things that you either LOVE doing or you absolutely HATE doing it. my parents never forced me to anything, which allowed me to force and train myself in sports.. and i developed a passion it. i know a few ppl who were forced into sports...and surprisingly every single one of them are extremly successful now... because to me if you train yourself enough from the start you are capable to be the best there is as an athelete.. but in modelling..if you dont have the looks... only plastic surgery can change that....and lets not go into that.
comparing sports to pagents..... very iffy topic for me. i quit the profession route to dancing because my teachers forced me to lose weight...and i guess some parents force their kids to lose weight for sports and pagents as well. im going around in circles here... in a way i disagree, but i do see resemblence. i think im defensive about this is cuz over the years the media has drilled into my mind that pagents = bad, fake and cruel... and sports = good, healthy excercise, and pure. i duno im lost.. Bleaching your daughters hair at five, putting 473924 pounds of makeup on her, dressing her up like a whore and then telling her to flirt w/ a 47 year old man that's singing in her face is a little bit different than putting her into soccer or swimming. At that age you should not have someone pointing out your physical flaws and how you'll lose points for them. The last thing I was worried about when I was 7 was my physical appearance. That's just fucked. When's the last time you heard a soccer coach say "The teams going to lose points because you're missing a tooth?" Or "okay girls we're bleaching you're hair today or we wont win a game. Then again if you're in dance or gymnastics you'll just be told to lose weight so I guess you can't win. But I can honestly say there was nothing emotionally scaring about being put into swimming at 6. |

^^i had coaches tell me to gain more speed and more muscle before..and that took a lot of "painful" training.. and dieting etc. i didn't think it was good for my body, but in a way it was forced... but it totally paid off though.. its a tough call.
swimming..OOOHHZ the kid has to shave his/her legs, arms and chest to get that .0002 seconds faster. ahh |

rhianna.. i think we're talking about competitve sports at a young age here...since pagents are pretty serious for young modelling. hmmm a good example is in china where they recruit babies to become their future athletes and they pull them away from their daily lives to become a gold metal gymnastic champion..... that is NOT right at all. i like the thought of a child choosing their own path in what they want to be interested in....and if he/she chooses to persue it in a professional and competitive stage..then fine be it.
