not only that, but the atkins diet is generally high in saturated and total fat which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and the types of foods you'd eat are usually lacking in very important nutrients. the lack of carbs also prevents the full digestionof fats which can result in ketosis. whether or not this is really bad for you, I'm not sure. but my kin 110 class has taught me that this can lead to metabolic acidosis and cardiac arrhythmias, and even worse, death. *edit* my argument is rather one-sided... here's something from ED that might help you see the other side: http://www.electronicdynasty.com/for...id=2139&page=2 --Joanne :P Last edited by Joanne; Sep 04, 03 at 12:30 PM. |

yeah the atkins diet makes you really sluggish and slow for the first little while because of the lack of carbs
but your body will go through a metobolic change and becomes a fat burning (instead of fat storing) "machine" you can cheat on the weekends and load up on carbs for the upcoming weekdays. so it isn't always super low carbs (gives you an insulin spike) I find that it gives you more energy the Idea behind the high fat intake is that your body is starved of fat from most diets, because of this it stores any kinda fats that you eat (even bad fats) when you have an exess of fats going through you your body will use the good fats and let the bad ones flow right through the only down side is that if taken for a really long time it can be harmfull thats my 2 cents |

yeah but there are other things like Fish, chicken, bran anything, yohgurt, low carb protien bars, burgers, prawns ect....
I wouldn't ever recomend going on the Atkins diet but when used as a guide line it is extremely efective and I've seen people loose around 30 lbs in about 3 months and keep it off |

I've yet to meet anyone who's ever been on the atkin's diet keep the weight off for more than a year, but that's just me. I agree, it may sound great for some people who wanna lose weight quick and fast... but then again, starving yourself helps you lose weight quick and fast... personally, I would never try it as a weight loss method.. but hey, if it works for you, it's your choice. --Joanne :P |

over 95% of people who start Atkins and The Zone can not stick to it and drop out usually occurs within the first 3 months the 5% that do are usually blown away by their success, and are able to stick to it for life (Michael Sole MD, Toronto Hospital - cardiology) that's astonishing numbers so in my totally inexpert opinion it's likely not the approach for most people but for those 5% whoo-hooooo!!! |

i don't get as many cravings as I used to.. but for any craving, fruit works. Fruit has become one of my all-time favorite desserts.
as for diets, I don't believe in crash diets. I'm against anything that denies you of a certain food group. It's just unrealistic. Kind of like the protein diet. I mean, do you realy expect to be eating meat for the rest of your life? Where's the quality of livvinggg.. once you get so sick of yourself you'll binge on everything you denied yourself of and you'll give into your other cravings.. it just doesn't stop at that point. Everything you lost you'll gain TIMES TWO. if it sounds extreme than it's too extreme for me. I like everything in moderation.. I don't deny myself of anything but I don't do too much of one thing.. heh. |
