citations?

Ok. I'm super confused. How would I cite an author, who cited some one else? does that even, work?

would I cite him, or would I just use his citation for the other author.. you know what I mean?

If the citation is exactly the same then I'd cite the original author.

If it was modified in any way then cite the 'new' author.

hmm.. i guesso. well I'm sure that it is the interpretation or report of the "new author". they are exact quotations or anything..

but I'd feel weird if I was citing the new author for statistics he didn't come up with on his own.. agh i hate university writing!
I HATE WRITING!

Just do whatever is most logical... kind of like math... of the same variable is carried forward it is always the same.

Look at the information you are citing that way and it might be easier to resolve your problem.

Joanne is an unknown quantity at this point
^^
you're not supposed to cite the original author unless you've actually read the original work cited. although, I admit when I feel like being a lazy ass, I sometimes cite the original author... :(

however, if you wanna know what you SHOULD do, it would be something along the lines of X &Y's study (as cited in A, B, C, 2003).... blah, blah, blah.
