Banff/Lake Louise WOW, What a Weekend!

Well I was lucky enough to have business up in Banff this weekend and just thought I'd share with you what an amazing place it is.

This is where I stayed,
It's a very nice place (4 1/2 stars) but being family owned and operated still has a very relaxed atmosphere.

This is Lake Louise, it's at the base of a glacier which peeks out at around 10,000 feet! The hotel was the inspiration for the movie the Shining and feel a bit like an old haunted castle, very cool,

This is downtown Banff, the mountain in the back ground is one of many that surroun it, just amazing views everywhere you look,

This was the view from the dinning room at Lake Louise,

Anyway I'll be getting back the pictures we took while up there soon so I'll post those up as well...

So who wants to head up there this winter to go boarding?

I went there last year to ride and driving by the mountains was awe inspiring.

Plan to go back there once this year to hit up Lake Louise or Sunshine.

Well I didn't get to go during prime snowboarding season but the snow was still quite good compared to the cement we get out here.

I did find the odd patch of pow and it is a bit lighter and fluffier than the stuff at Big White/Silver Star/Sun Peaks.

Dunno if it is worth a flight just to get it though when I can just drive 4 hours into the interior of BC.

True that... I can get deals though so I'll be looking for a cheap flight and then once I get there I'll be good to go.

Well we flew but from what I hear it's quite the drive, maybe 12 hours. Flying would be a very reasonable proposition though. A ticket to Calgary would be around $150-$200 round trip and a transfer to Banff about $50 round trip. Once you're in Banff you have no need for a car summer or winter. Check West Jet for a good deal on flights,

Banff isn't without it's charm, and I think I could do a summer or two in Canmore, but the winters suck ass, I think the skiing is better in the interior, it's warmer and there's more snow, IMO. and less people...

Very true, March and April are actually the best time to go up.

I know!!! Photo's don't come even close to doing it justice. When I was eating lunch there I caught myslef staring at the view in a daze, just amazed at how beautiful it is. The lake is litterally bright emerald green, then that peak goes up about 4 thousand feet!
