Diets
Any of you try different ways of eating in order to feel better or alter your body?
This applies to very thin people who have also attempted to gain weight.... I've been doing Atkins for quite a while now, and I have found it the most efficient in keeping blood sugar low and energy up.... |

Yeah....The first few days are wierd as your body adjusts to its new metabolism, but I used to need naps everyday...and now I'm hardly ever drained for no reason. I also haven't been sick since I started...this could be coincidence, however I used to be sick all the time.
Also the fact that I lost 40 pounds keeps me away from carbs. |

I would never do the atkins diet.
I tend to eat a lot of raw fruits and veggies, organic when possible. Nuts and seeds, too(raw) 4 litres of water a day. I make smoothies with Nu greens powder, protien powder, Udo's ultimate oil blend and OJ. I take Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, Chromium, Selenium, Multi mineral and vitamin and zinc, plus I add trace mineral drops to my water.\ Organic salad greens are good, so are probiotics. I try to stay away from cheese, but I am surronded by the best cheese in the world. I don't drink much, either, but that will change tonight. I don't eat much red meat, but I truly love it. I try to avoid fried foods as well. I do eat carbs, but am slightly alleric to wheat, but I love bread. I don't agree with atkins because carbs are energy, and you need some to be active. That and you may lose a lot of weight, but if you aren't working out, you still are kind of flabby. A good nights sleep goes a long way as well. So do 15 minute naps in the afternoon. Excercise will keep your energy up as well, so will drinking water and fresh air. Keep away from refined sugars as well. All of that seemed to work for me, I was a proffessional athelete by the time I was 18, with %6 body fat. I'm up to about %9 now, and feel a lot better. |

If u are going to do any kind of workout either weight training or cardio, ur going to need a normal amount of carbs coming from healthy food sources, not fried food or crap like that...for weigth training its supposedly good to get more then usual protein, normal amount or a bit more of carbs, and low fat...

Fat doesn't make you fat. Carbs and sugar do, along with a sedintary life style. And another thing, heating oils like olive oil, canola, grapeseed oil and what not past 120 degrees celcius is a bad idea, as the oil starts to break down and become carciniogenic. You can watch it happen as the oil gets hotter, it starts to smoke and get cloudy. The longer and hotter, the worse it is for you. Things like water, salt, copper, flour, starch etc. also help speed the process up. Your best bet is to fry things with butter, as it is a "heartier" fat that won't break down as easily. and it tastes the best. Not that you should be frying things in butter on a regular basis... |

the atkins diet is for people who are actually overweight
it is not a diet for people who want to shed a few pounds total elimination of carbs from your diet can slowly do harm to your body; you wonder why you crave carbs? it gives you energy to think and to keep going so you lose 40 pounds off the no carb diet, now you must slowly reintroduce carbs back into your diet and figure out how many carbs your body can handle by not gaining weight again. there are good carbs and bad carbs: i find it funny that a lot of the no-carb diets say you can't eat fruit. well i'm sorry, but fruit can't do harm, and it has natural sugars and vitamins that are good for you. to totally eliminate fruits from your diet? thats a little wierd to me... and also keep in mind that a low-fat diet most definitely does not equate with NO fat. --Joanne :P |

People have alot of misconceptions and biases pertaining to the Atkins lifestyle because they may know somene who hasn't followed it correctly or various things they have read...There is actually scientific evidence based on both sides of the diet scale (Low carb vs low fat)
The Atkin's "diet" actually is based on a caveman like diet before refined wheats and sugar, allowing almost any fruit, preferably berries, and vegetables and anything soy or fibre ridden. By the end of the process a person determines how many carbs per day they can personally eat without gaining any of the weight back..for instance I now choose to eat everything except anything with refined sugar, or flour. |

um the one i recommend least is the hospital diet
which is like veggie soup all the time and any veggies and soup day one any fruits and soup day two any fruits or vegetables and soup day three day four is like bannanas and milk and soup it goes on like this for a week - then you stop and go back to your regular eating all your allowed to drink is water, juice and coffee(black) i teach fitness classes so i passed out a few times before finishing the week its not really healthy for your body to diet at all restriction= binging when you finally stop unless you diet forever which isnt very likely |

ok I have an honest question for your dieters or dietee's. How long do you expect to commit yourself to these diets? And once you've stopped (if you do) how do you expect to maintain the weight that you lost?
------------------------ I am (have become) anti-fad-diet or any diet that promises extreme weight loss in a short period of time. Permanent weight loss and maintaining it, is a long-term commitment, and not one that is achieved with diets/supplements that promise "RESULTS IN JUST 3 WEEKS!" . I think that redirecting your focus from WEIGHT LOSS to HEALTH is a good way to go. Change your lifestyle into one that is healthy and the postive results (along with weight loss) will follow. As for me, I don't diet. Ever since I started excersing regulary, my diet (as in the types of food I intake and it's quantity) changed on its own. It's funny how that works, but my theory is that you can learn to listen to your body, and not be deceived by your cravings. |
