Learning From History, Does It Work?
"No 'healing', no apologies, no memorials, nothing can possibly compensate for the damage done and the pain inflicted....The only thing we can possibly do, twenty years too late, is to try and tell the truth."
Historian Eric Bergerud (UC Berkeley)
These are the words of a Vietnam war veteran who in my opinion hits the issue right on the head. As the Bush camp is so worried about getting reelected and hanging onto the power they have, it would seem the truth has been all but lost as they rush to put a positive spin on their war.
In trying to gain a bit more of an understanding of the situation in Iraq I've been brushing up a bit on the Vietnam war as I keep hearing war veterans draw comparisons. This was just one of the many quotes that I found to be moving and just thought I'd share.
