friends on f&k will ask each other to give them positive karma... while other people on f&k who aren't interested in been "cool" or have no friends, will suffer...

arg... let me put it like this...
ur turning the f&k community into a herd of sheep.
now... in sheep society, the strongest = #1... weakest = #999 or whatever... now in order to become #1, u have to fight everyone above you until you're on top...

now the idea of ramming into other f&k members head on, like a bunch of neanderthals sounds pretty exciting and all, but does it have a positive effect on our community? i'm sure we've already got people on here that think they're all that, and they are the coolest of the cool on f&k, and i'm sure they are in their own little world... i'm not naming names, cuz i don't really even pay attention to people's status on this site... honestly i'm not interested in who is the coolest. i post, you post, i read if i want, you read if u want. either way, i don't give a fuck who you are. if you have something interesting to say, great. sometimes u mite not have something interesting to say. who am i to judge? i'm not gonna scavange my way around this sight searching for the most interesting post. i'm gonna read a thread and, in my own fucking opinion, i'm gonna say that i like this and that post. if someone else doesn't like it cuz it's not about unicorns, or getting laid, well fuck them...

you looking at this all wrong, its not to make people better then others, it to encourage better posts, and not spam, and rambling crap. users are only allowed to give so much karma to users a week, along with users with more posts, and who have spent more time here, when they give karma its counts for more then someone with 50 posts. plus this features seems a bit more important then changing the "fuzzy" color on your user title. :375:

people who have 2500 posts... THEY'RE POSTING WHORES!
their posts aren't about quality... usually... so why should they be recognized as BETTER POSTERS? they get to give more karma to someone because they're a WHORE!?!?! wtf?

so... apparently my posts are worth less than someone with 2500 posts, who has probably been a member not quite as long as i have. because i don't put 100 useless shoutouts to "my posting whore buddies", like they mite do, i'm not as high caliber of a poster as them...

yes... i see the logic behind this now :)


i'm getting really annoyed with the whole "profile" part of this place. it all just seems like encouragement for competition. to make your profile look better than everyone elses. na na na boo boo i have 3000 posts and a green light, and this and that next to my name...

can u just give ME a seperate profile. call me a fucking grouch or a hermit or something... PLEASE!?!?! i love this site, but i don't like the HIGH SCHOOL social status atmosphere being brought into it.. most partykids dred high school and the way they were treated, or at least that's the way it used to be before "raves" were "cool"... sorry, i'm not part of this new fad.

i say we all gang up on one member each week that we'd devote to as the "dead meat" user and we give them bad karma points cuz they are ugly or stupid.

the whole karma thing just seems kinda like a popularity contest.. myles hun i know you're always trying to improve the site, but its the ppl of the site that make it good, layout has lil to do with it.. most the time.

First off its not made for you to give every post a good or bad karma, you are limited to how much karma you can give altogether, and to each member. For the "posting whores" as you call them, you give poor karma on posts you disagree with, and good karma on the better ones, and leave the "average" post alone. When a mod gives karma it counts for more then if a average member gave some, and same goes for admins. This hack isn't a free for all, "click good karma, hit back, click good karma again" thing. I put hours of my free time into this site to make it better, and spend my own money to help develope it, so maybe you should get all your facts stright before you start making snap decisions.

i dunno if i agree with all of this karma business. I don't think it's a good idea to stereotype people as "forum idiots" as you put it. you have to let people decide for themselves who the "idiots" are....not what other people think of them. thats just high school bullshit. it's labeling people based on what everyone else thinks of them.

it was a good idea with good intentions to stimulate better posts but there are side affects too.

and that's what i don't like. u basically just made lazee_grrl buddha... nothing against lazee_grrl... she just has an excessive amount of posts... now. according to your logic, what she writes is more important than what i write? wait let me rephrase that so you don't get me wrong here... cuz i know you will... i'll do an example...

say joe blow is browsing thru the site, he's been told that people with a higher karma rating, post more QUALITY stuff... SO, joe blow says "well ok, i'll just look at the posts of the ppl with good karma, and everyone else can eat me"...

now say someone like me, who will eventually have a disaster of a karma rating because i go my own way and express my own opinion no matter how rash it is, i don't make friends on here because i don't take anyones side on a discussion, so why would anyone bother giving me good karma when they could give it to someone like azn_sweet_e, she seems to be everyone's friend around here (was that a direct attack? we'll call it an observation)... say i post something that joe blow mite be interested in reading, but he won't read because i have bad karma. he'll read azn_sweet_e's post: "oh like totally, i totally love the way you do your hair leslie". why did he read that post? because azn_sweet_e pleased leslie by commenting her. leslie, in response, gave azn_sweet_e some good karma because she made leslie happy. NOW, joe blow didn't really care for that post. honestly, he thought it was something that affected him in no way whatsoever. it was a message that was probably better off sent thru icq. now on the other hand, bob had written a 2000 word essay on how much he hated the fact that leslie uses dog shit instead of shampoo (she likes to call it sham-POO). this interested joe blow, but he never read it cuz of bob's karma... the reason bob's karma was so low, is because he didn't take leslie's side, and she gave him a bad karma rating as a result.

get it? great...


now... don't think that i don't follow your point. yes, i'm sure you'd like to think that the karma feature will not cause this. that it will encourage people to be FAIR, and post BETTER, and everyone can be happy and la laalalala...

i'd go on about it, but i don't wanna strain your eyes.

There is no way of knowing who gave karma to who.
Fuck, look if you don't like it, shut the fuck up, and turn it off from your options in your profile. I spent $80.00 on this hack (developed by my friend) for you guys, that's cash out of my pocket from working outside of this site, to go towards the site. I don't get paid for what I do here, nobody does. So when I add somthing, or change somthing that you may not like, then don't use it.

i dunno...personally i think the karma idea is very cool. It makes the site more interactive and, as myles said, will encourage members to make more meaningful posts. It's just something fun...i don't think everyone has to sit down and analyze it/dissect it. I dunno though...for all its worth myles: i like the karma idea

heres what i see in this whole "issue"
myles puts in a shit load of work and time into this site and i think everyone should be happy and greatful for it, or it wouldn't be alive and running. Now i'm not saying no one is ungreatful. But, i think people should think about stuff...i mean if something is put on the site that isn't what you think is necessary, i think it's good to talk about it and whatever..discuss changes/additions and options to the site is a good idea. BUT to flame someone is another thing....so you don't think this whole karma thing is a good plan....some people might some people might not...maybe we should discuss the whole thing with out causing a bit ruckus and see what comes out from there?!
I don't know if i'm making sense but....ya those are my thoughts

but i wasn't flaming snyx... i may have flamed the karma thing a little bit, but honestly i was just trying to expand my opinion on the karma thing. seeing as snyx wouldn't even listen to my reasoning. i didn't ask him to take it off, i just said i didn't like it, and told him what i thought it mite do to the site.

if you click the karma button near the person's avatar, you get to see how much karma (positive/negative) they have. if you click on the karma button bellow each person's post (ie. where the 'edit' button is), then you can give the person karma

well say i read one of your posts and i think to myself "wow...that post was pretty deep and meaningful" or "i like that post" then i can give you good karma. but say you make the dumbest post ever, i can give you bad karma. It's just a way to promote intelligent posting i guess. Basically it's just a fun add-on to the site.
