hey matt!

my sisters boyfriend lives with me and he's in the army, but he's trying to get out

thing is that there recruiting tons a people, but nobodys getting trained
the old guys that have the training and are capable of teaching the newbies are all retiring, and there's not enough funding or facilities

guy was supposed to get into his program a long time ago, but he still hasn't gotten anywhere

if you want a somewhat secure job, and to travel in canada...go for it, but expect a lot of bullshit

this is what that is for:

Computer Engineering Technician/Technologist
Computer Networks Engineering Technician/Technologist
Telecommunications Technician
Wireless Communications Technician
If you are a community college graduate, or a qualified tradesperson in one of the trades listed above, you could be eligible for a career with a difference in the Canadian Forces.
PLUS
$20,000 signing bonus for specified civilian trade qualified journeymen
OR
$10,000 signing bonus for college graduates in designated programs
A financial incentive is just one of the rewards you’ll enjoy in this environment of innovation, adventure, travel and teamwork. You’ll get to work on leading-edge technology, while you rise through the ranks with a high level of job security, salary and benefits.

One of my good friends joined the army, he said it was great and valuable experience. The basic training was awesome he said. That was few years ago tho, what people are saying about no people to train recruits may be right.
After your training, you are part of the reserves, my friend went AWOL hahah.
All in all, my friend didn't really have anything bad to say about his experience, so go for it.
One tip - Start training before you join, those long distance runs will be killer.

I wonder if I could still qualify with my hair the way it is?

Or would I be a focal point for the drill instructor's hatred.

My friend went A.W.O.L so he could get married

and then he spent some time in a Canadian Army Jail for doing so - he doesn't recomend you take that route.

I was considering joining for the 10K bonus with a tech diploma too... think my diploma would count. But yeah, I got an alright job so I forgot all about that... heh. At least if I ever owe some mafia thug 10 grand for something I can just join the army instead of turning to a life of crime (sorry, just got Vice City).

Yeah but i could get killed tommorow, by a drunk driver ...or maybe overseas in some foriegn country..

We all have to go sometime, ive always lived my life to the fullest If its my time to go during my service in the army then I think i lived my life well.
Life is all about taking risks, I wouldnt have such a good life if I had shirked away every oppertunity that presented itself to me even if the risks in it were high.

gusto....no a tech diploma will not work for the bonus. it has to be a degree in that field.

e_boy.....you want to be a sniper? the master sniper level training course is just that. a course. you are not "a sniper". you are usually an infantry or recon soldier with a course. btw, canada has 4 of the top 10 snipers in the world in our army. we have the furthest confirmed kill also, in history. done in afghanistan by someone in the 3 battalion PPCLI, from edmonton. it was done from 3.2 miles. now that is skill.

technique....talk to a recruiter. you can sign deals that make the army pay for all of your schooling, while you are in the army. my friend signed a 6 year deal. he was in the reserves during school, and full time when off school. he's now 25, and has 2 degrees.

and mc hammered. your hair can not be blue, only natural colours. and about the drill instructors being mean to you. these days in the "correct and modern army", they can not insult you or put you down. nor can they touch you even. never.

the only thing basic training is good for now, is getting in fights with other recruits, and getting in shape from your own will.

I know what you're saying about things being a little boring, things have stagmented for me right now. I'm most likely going to join the reserves though, I don't think I could handle being in the regular corp and with the reserves at least you get to choose where you want to live and continue with your life. Probably gonna join the armoured reconnaisence division (with the tanks outside on Beatty street downtown), and I can start off as an officer because of my degree which is pretty sweet.
