One of my good friends joined the army, he said it was great and valuable experience. The basic training was awesome he said. That was few years ago tho, what people are saying about no people to train recruits may be right.
After your training, you are part of the reserves, my friend went AWOL hahah. All in all, my friend didn't really have anything bad to say about his experience, so go for it. One tip - Start training before you join, those long distance runs will be killer. |

Or would I be a focal point for the drill instructor's hatred. |

I was considering joining for the 10K bonus with a tech diploma too... think my diploma would count. But yeah, I got an alright job so I forgot all about that... heh. At least if I ever owe some mafia thug 10 grand for something I can just join the army instead of turning to a life of crime (sorry, just got Vice City).

We all have to go sometime, ive always lived my life to the fullest If its my time to go during my service in the army then I think i lived my life well. Life is all about taking risks, I wouldnt have such a good life if I had shirked away every oppertunity that presented itself to me even if the risks in it were high. |

gusto....no a tech diploma will not work for the bonus. it has to be a degree in that field.
e_boy.....you want to be a sniper? the master sniper level training course is just that. a course. you are not "a sniper". you are usually an infantry or recon soldier with a course. btw, canada has 4 of the top 10 snipers in the world in our army. we have the furthest confirmed kill also, in history. done in afghanistan by someone in the 3 battalion PPCLI, from edmonton. it was done from 3.2 miles. now that is skill. technique....talk to a recruiter. you can sign deals that make the army pay for all of your schooling, while you are in the army. my friend signed a 6 year deal. he was in the reserves during school, and full time when off school. he's now 25, and has 2 degrees. and mc hammered. your hair can not be blue, only natural colours. and about the drill instructors being mean to you. these days in the "correct and modern army", they can not insult you or put you down. nor can they touch you even. never. the only thing basic training is good for now, is getting in fights with other recruits, and getting in shape from your own will. |

I know what you're saying about things being a little boring, things have stagmented for me right now. I'm most likely going to join the reserves though, I don't think I could handle being in the regular corp and with the reserves at least you get to choose where you want to live and continue with your life. Probably gonna join the armoured reconnaisence division (with the tanks outside on Beatty street downtown), and I can start off as an officer because of my degree which is pretty sweet.
