Gun crazy american culture.....
I post on another message board once in a while called teamxbox... its basically a videogame related site... obviously! I was on there today and got involved in a debate over gun control etc...
It absolutely blows my mind to see the single mindedness some americans carry about their right to bear arms etc.... It's almost a funny read actually.... http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread...5&pagenumber=3 |

sure everyone has the right to have guns.
we all have the right also, but we don't all choose to. just some of us can't help but love them. my babies, i love them all. when the armagedon comes, i'll be ready, haha. Last edited by PHUNK; Dec 05, 03 at 05:56 AM. |

I don't think I saw any of them saying its their right to bear arms anywhere but I could be wrong. Not to hate on you or anything but it does seem pretty pretentious to go onto a forum filled with Americans and tell them what is wrong with their country, no?
Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with owning certain guns, ie a rifle or shotgun for either sport shooting or hunting. I only condone hunting if the animal gets used for food. I do not think there is any need for handguns at all as I see the only real purpose of owning one is for killing people and concealment. I too agree that there needs to be some reform on the US gun policy. As far as the beer goes the US has much stronger and better beer than alot of the beer in Canada, you should know that Washington and Oregon have some of the best micro breweries since your in seattle twice a week :) Last edited by Leviathan; Dec 05, 03 at 06:40 AM. |

^I never told them what was wrong with their country.... I made some factual statements in regards to their murder rate etc as well as some comments in regards to the way they are percieved by other people/cultures. I was also very careful to point out that I would never go so far as to say that it applies to every american.
As for beer.... on average ours is stronger. I don't know crap about micro-breweries in Washington or Oregon... I travel there for work not play. :) |

in reply to chino
Where have you been in the states, almost everywhere I've been I could find a brew pub or microbrewery that was comparable or better than anything here? They have more and far better micro breweries. Hell your hard pressed to even find a wheat ale in our liquor stores |

didn't mean to highjack the thread, sorry.
I travel down south for work quite frequently too, but I find the time to go buy a six pack to sip on before bed time, being a canadian you should too :) Live up to that stereotype! Quote:

beer beer beer...
oh my... yes guns are bad... and owning a gun increases your risk of being involved in a gun accident blah blah blah... we all see tv, we read teh newspaper, no one lives under a rock. my uncle in the states is a member of the nra, however he does not own a gun. he just believes in the right to own one. guns a dangerous, but so are words, so are knives, so are baseball bats, so are human bodies. people get blugened to death with just about any blunt objects, and lets not forget home made bombs... now i may be waaaaaaaaay off topic but violence is violence and it will happen no matter what, its human nature its animal nature. but to contradict myself, i dont like the fact that my neighbour may have a gun, or the kid im sitting next to in class owns one. its scarey... but alas the whole world is scarey out there. i think this is a debate that will go on forever... and i think it was chris rock who had the best idea of putting a price increase on bullets.. making each bullet $500... |

-do idiots leave loaded guns around children? yes. they should be punished
-do people with carry and conceal permits (texas) murder people? no. not 1 single person. every instance in which someone died was self-defence. go look it up. i shit you not. -do people break the law with their permits break gun laws? yes, usually by walking into the wrong building ie: govt buildings. -crimes in rape, armed robbery and muggings have declined since being allowed to carry and conceal. because criminals don't know now. even if 1% are carrying, that 1% is a huge deterrant. -It is illegal to reveal your concealed pistol. Even if you have it hidden under an unbuttoned jacket, and the wind blows it open so other people can see it, you have committed the crime of allowing your concealed handgun to be seen. You can only draw your weapon if you life is in immediate danger; otherwise, it is your responsibility to keep it concealed. -remember for every incident of some idiot and his gun going off by accident, their's literally millions of gun owners who haven't had a problem their whole life. |

btw: it is a cultural issue. it's really as simple as that. it's like if canada started a campaign that told certain asian countries that they can't eat dogs because we don't like it. good luck with that one.
here's an easy example. everyone in our country is retardedly patriotic about canadian beer. why? we just fuckin are! see a similarity to american attitude there? |
