I'm applying for an ivy league school where tuition averages about 27-30 grand US.

Interestingly enough, three quarters (75%) of its students recieve some form of financial aid from the school itself.

Getting a degree from any ivy league school can give you tons of opportunities in life, and I think if you're smart enough, it's an opportunity you shouldn't pass. There's always scholarships and bursaries...in the end, it's probably all worth it.

It DEFINITELY is worth it to graduate from an ivy league school. I know that it's EXTREMELY expensive and will end up as a financial burden to many in the end, but you will more than likely be able to find a VERY decent paying job right after coming out of school. I have friends who are making more than most people make a year EVER in the lives after their first year coming out with just a bachelors! I think the best route to go is to get your bachelors in Canada (to save tuition) and then go to an ivy league in the States for graduate school. However, not JUST the ivy league schools are good in the States. There defnitely are many other schools that have just as good of a reputation.

An Ivy degree might help you in the States because they like pedigrees down there. We're a little smarter than that, so I don't think those expensive degrees have any extra value up here.

I know someone who's in NY City at a semi-Ivy place, family in W.Van is paying. A big waste of money, probably, but if he finishes when the economy starts to boom, he might get a good job in the U.S. just by being there at the right time - He's been fired from the last few jobs he's had in NY and Vancouver so you have to wonder about that. I think there's quite a few rich slackers that come out of the Ivy places.

I researched some Ivy League schools while in grade 12, because I'd managed to have some pretty killer grades (yay IB), but they were all prohibitively expensive, and I have very generous/supportive parents too. Also, all the scholarships I looked into were only given to American students, only a very, very small percentage went to Internationals.

I'm considering an American school for law, but for my BA I'm content with UBC (at least they gave me money damn it. haha.)

myra, which school are you applying to, and for what program?

yeah american schools are fucking crazy expensive.

i've just recently started saving up money for grad school in boston. it's about 20 grand american a year though. but as others have said, there's numerous bursaries, scholarships, etc available.

and if worse comes to worse, i'll take a year or two off after getting my degree from ryerson and work like a mother fucker and then i'll move to boston....or london...or fuck...paris...

umm i think your wrong...an ivy league education will mean alot to any potential employer.

even if you can contest the quality of the education..you cannot contest the higher status these "brands" of degrees have. Degrees from ivy league schools are more about status then anything, the perception of the quality of education is more important then anything in determining acceptibilty by employers.

perception is everything, quality is nothing

you'd think being as bored as you must be, that you would notice "ivy" was spelt correctly in the message and realize the subject must have been a typo

hobbies are good, find one because you make me feel sad for you

atilla, her parents are paying for it and i'm sure it won't hurt them in the least, but what about people who cant't afford that. 12 grande to some people is a lot, that's the reality.

Oh. My bad. In that case.

Grande is a coffee size.

Apostrophes exist for a reason. In fact your punctuation in general is painful to read.

Feel free to attribute it to a "typo" but more than three grammatical mistakes to me screams either "stupid" or "lazy". In either case, don't expect me to think that you're any smarter because of it.

Well at least in the states they have Financial Aid that the student doesn't have to pay back. If you were to try and go to an expensive uni out here, you've got to pay back every penny. And best do it before you graduate so that you don't have to pay interest.

Hi

The "Ivy League" is a conference made up of 8 schools,

Columbia
Dartmouth College
Brown
Cornell
Princeton
Pennsylvania, Uni. of
Harvard
Yale

I think it started out as a sports conference...something like that. But these are the only schools in the Ivy League. After seeing this topic I looked a bit into it and I think it's a sports conference, though these schools are also well known for their scholastic achievement and social prestige.

it's probably damn expensive to go to any of these schools. I say if you can, go for it!
